Not sure if an 06A car should have a "D80" code on the tag. I thought D80 codes were found on early cars? Anybody?

Just the opposite. D80 showed up late May and on.

I thought the D80 code started late April or early May. I have an 05D car with the D80 code.

Yes, I think you are right. I have a 05E D80 myself, but I believe late April and on is correct, my mistake.

I think it was late May and on. 05D would probably be the earliest to see a D80 tag. I don't like that engine stamping. My original engine is V0321DZ and I see some differences. See what Kurt S thinks about the stamping.

I had some reservations about the block and trans stampings but since I can't get my April/May D80 straight, I didn't say anything.
Kurt needs to give his opinion.

HI stamp looks to close to the head and to deeply stamped

Engine date stamp pad does not have any machine marks on the pad at all.

While we are on this, what was the gap in days for Van Nuys built cars from VxxyyDZ stamp on the block to the build week on the trim tag? I assume the engines from the Flint plant were shipped out via train to the Van Nuys plant?

Someone should have invested more than $20 bucks at Harbor Frieght for there stamps! Like they say in Italy "Thatsa no good...!"

That probably varies since some engines could probably sit for while as others got installed as soon as they arrived. My car ;) has a V0321DZ motor in an 04A built car so that's pretty close. The trans and rear were actually much farther away from the build than the engine was.

Though the stamp is not original, it's not too bad. It would probably fool most buyers.
VIN is 9N657128.

The engine could be really close datewise on LOS cars. The distance didn't seem to have a large effect.
