Now that i have the engine pulled and apart i would like to know what needs to be checked to determine approximate horsepower.
I pick up the crank from the machine shop tomorrow. Had it turned with new bearings.
Engine is a 69 350ci. I was glad to see that it was a 4 bolt main. I was also suprised to see that it was bored .060 over. Man i purchased from said it was .030 over. The .617 lift cam that had 3 lobes gone is being replaced with a .488 lift. Im also getting matching valve springs. It is supposed to have 12.1 compression ratio, but i would like to verify that. How is the cc test done? the machine shop said the pistons i showed him had racing rings, so i told him to order what i needed. Has new 750 Holly w/vac sec. Also has new RPM Performer intake.
What else should i check while the engine is in the rebuild mode to get HP?

Im doing 2 projects at once the car is now completely stripped and ready for body work.
Thanks for helping - i have really learned alot in the last 3months reading everyone's messages.

60 over is on the edge! Is this a race car or daily driver? As for the compression what are the heads that you will run? If heads are factory Chevy give the casting number. What type of pistons, do they have a big dome on top or are they flat? Measure the deck height, has it been decked? There are so many variables to COMPRESSION it is hard for anyone to tell you what you have without the specifics. As for the 488 cam that is a moderate good all around street cam that will be fine to around 6000 RPM. If you truly have 12.1 compression you may need a bit more cam if you want the best combination. What trans and gear will you run? Throw us a bone here and I am sure you can get some great advice. Chris
