I am trying to find out if I have a true rs camaro. The trim tag code says 1FP87- but I am not finding this code. Is this the correct way to find out if it is an RS? Thanks

As far as I know you cannot tell if it is a RS from the trim tag. The 1FP87 breaks down to: 1 Chevrolet, F Camaro body, P Sport Coupe, 87 Hardtop. If it has the original paint or has been repainted to match the original it should have one color on the upper nose the width of the grill, which should be black. This same color would continue up the hood getting wider as it approached the vents and continue along the top of the doors all the way back to the roof panels which would be partially this color. All the roof would be this color. This color was quite often black but didn't have to be. The rest of the car would be painted another color. The two colors would be separated along their common borders by 3 stripes of different color combinations. It should have a rear spoiler, but not a front one. It should have a RS emblem in the front grille. Hope this is of help.

My Camaro does have a rear spoiler. It also has the emblems on it. However the car has been painted - I have found light blue under some of the paint- the entire car has been painted black. I am selling the car- it is just the body- and I had someone reply to my ad and tell me off saying that it is not a true rs that he had bought one years ago(brand new) and that I am not being honest with my ad- because the 80 model camaro is a very rare car there were only 12,015 of them made. I am trying to get as much information as I can because I doesn't want to list my car incorrectly. Other than certian parts of the car as far as emblems and paint if there is another way to get the cars history that would be great. Another thing that the car has is factory ac.

regardless, anyone emailing you that kind of drivel is not interested in buying your car anyway, so just tell him to go pack sand somewhere else ... :)

Thank you so much! That got everything I need to show proof that it is the rare 80 RS camaro.

I have a small collection of camaros and I knew that my Type LT camaro is rare but I am not up to date on the 80 models!
78 and back I got covered! I have a 67(currently restoring) 68 all original convertalbe, 69 with a 406 in it(built this one for my 2 yr old) 70 model and 78. So with working on these I have been able to get the questions answered that I didn't know.

Thanks for all the help!!!
