hello, i need the true fact's before i bid on this camaro--i have been told before on here that the cowl tag unit number's and the last six number's on the vin should line up close.
so here we go-i'm wanting to bid on a 67 camaro that's on e-bay, the person is showing a picture of the vin and cowl tag, please take a look
for your self--it's on e-bay motor's--item # 180297803014--the cowl tag
show's 04-d--so that should be april-4th week . the the last six number's on the cowl tag are---113472 and the vin # 124377n213337-- ok, the chart on CHEVY-CAMARO.COM show's that the body unit number that's on this cowl tag should be OCT-66---UNITS 111324---124052.
so, now i'm really confused--i have been told that the number's on the cowl tag and the built date, should fall somewhere within the last six number's on the vin tag, well this is the 3rd car i have seen on e-bay and
none of them are like i have been told, they should be.
i'm asking for all of you camaro guy's that really know these thing's--if
you would explain this to me in full detail---i missed out on a super nice 67
camaro last week because i was told that the vin # and the cowl # were
to be in line with the month it was built and the vin#---
thank you

The sequential numbers on the cowl tag are not what your lookin for , the Sequential numbers on the vin would have to line up with the 04D, Someone had a chart that showed what cars were built when ( timeframe wise ) that was posted in a thread but i must be using the wrong Keywords cause i cant seem to find it. But im sure someone will check in and let you Know if that 04D and Vin line up ok.

<edit> Looked at that Chart and it does State to use that last 6 numbers in the VIN not cowl tag, Using those numbers they fall into a May 67 build , But that chart also states its not 100% accurate as the car could have still been in assembly, as the cowl tag was attached well prior to the car's completion.

See if this helps: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#VIN I'm not really up on the '67s, but on the '69s, the number on the cowl tag has nothing to do to do with the VIN number. What you want to verify is that the VIN number falls within the week the cowl tag says the car was built. I don't think you have to worry about the 6 digit number on the cowl tag. Once again, though, '67s aren't my strong suit.

The vin and cowl tag look good to me. Go to this link and scroll down and you will find a chart with the approximate month ending vin.

VIN and Tag are fine for an April Built car. Its not an original big block though.

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
7 = 1967 model year
N = Norwood, OH assembly plant
213337 = vehicle serial number sequence

Decode for body number: 113472

04D = Built the Fourth week of April.
67-12437 = Standard Interior Coupe.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
709 = Standard Gold Bucket Seats.
Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats.
G-2 = Lower Color is Granada Gold and the Vinyl Top Color is Black.
G = Interior paint is Gold
Options:
2M = (M35) Powerglide Transmission
2G = (D55) Console front compartment
3D = (U29) Courtesy Lamp

If that is the original trim tag, the car has had major work to remove the vinyl top too. Now Marina Blue with Black interior ?? Nice car, but far from original........;)

ok, please explain this to me---the last 6 number's of the vin 213337 --- the chart on
chevy-camaro.com show's this to be a may 67 built car---not a april built car

on the chart it show's may 67-----209659---224672
and april of 67------197222-209658
so can a vin # be 1 month off from the build date on a cowl tag---

Because the last VIN reported in April is actually the VIN of the car that left the factory at the end of the second shift on April 28 1967 (that was a Friday) which was the last day of the month. There was still about 4 days of 04D code trim tag cars on the assembly line at that time (took about 3 1/2 to 4 days for a car to go from a pile of sheetmetal to a finished car). So at 912 cars a day there are about another 3600 VIN numbers that will have an 04D cowl tag past the 209659 car reported on 4/28.
