1969 Camaro original survivor 327 2spd 10 bolt mono leaf susp. 120,000 miles original wheels, body and interior like new. I would like to upgrade this car to brake better sit higher handle better.

1) Would like to add front power disc brakes to a 1969 Camaro, not able to afford a kit but do have the knowledge to install a upgrade from another GM vehicle. Will the power booster and master from a 1977 Camaro work, what spindles are recomended.

2) Spings, recomended rear sping configuration, currently has mono leaf set up would like to raise the car (sitting quite low) high enough to clear 16" 60 series tires. (4 leaf, 5 leaf)

3) Faster power steering ratio, recomended box, heard 1973 Nova?

4) What is the wheel offset for this car when getting into wider rims?

5) Suggested sway bars

It's your car and you can do anything you want, but if it's all original and a survivor, I'd be tempted to not do too much modding.

1. I would have no problem with upgrading to power front disc brakes. The 69 Camaro front disc brakes are the same as early 70's GM A-body cars (Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Chevelle, El Camino, Le Mans, etc.). Just need the front spindles, calibers and brackets, rotors, master cylinder and booster, and combination valve. Alternatively, save up for the Right Stuff kit that Matt's Classic Bowties sells for $479 (this is the kit I used).

2. Swapping in multi-leaf springs will probably help you and probably is the best option, but I was thinking you could also get shackles to lift the height if you want.

3. Several options available for steering gears. One of the popular swaps right now is third generation steering box conversion. Again, I'd tend to stay semi-original and get a used, rebuilt, or new quick ratio 69 Camaro box like they used in the Z-28. Although there are cheaper options, I bought an AGR unit and am pleased with it.

I'll let someone else that knows more than me answer your other questions.

If it is original, then only minimal bolt in mods should be done.

1) add a power booster and Power M/C to your 4 wheel drums, much easier and the stopping power of the drums is MUCH improved!

2) use the 3-leaf replacements for monos (see the suspension forums)

3) I would not touch this unless you know what you are doing. A proper aligments to Pozzi's specs help out here!

4) just put wider tires on your existing rims (if they look good). Other wise use standard offsets. There are a lot of discussion in the wheels and tires forum about what will fit in the wells of a 69.

5) 1 inch max sway bar, the 1 1/8 bars introduce other issues that have to be overcome.

my .02 After you do all this, the PG will be the next stop :D

if it's original survivor, leave it alone. Wow, did someone suggest adding shackles? I agree with adding disc brakes to the front.

1) Would like to add front power disc brakes not able to afford a kit

2) Spings

3) Faster power steering ratio
4) Wheels

5) sway bars
What is your total budget? You've got a lot listed above but can't afford a brake kit.

Thank you Team for all the great replies, lots of experience as well as opinions, gotta love that:yes:. The front disc kit sure sounds like the way to go, As for the leafspringss I will keep all of the original parts but this is not going to be an original car when I'm finished (See below). :noway:Never knew the Z-28 was a fast ratio box, great to know as I just happen to know were there is one, thanks. The existingng rims are for hub caps, a new set of Torque Thrust-D's are being installed. The sway bar info is really helpful thank you. Lastly if some one is willing trade me straight up for a hugger orange, black interior small block rust free 4 spd car, then this original will be upgraded to drive and have fun in, as don't plan on cutting up the car just upgrade it for safety and practicality.
