smith69z Oct 12th, 08, 04:18 PM Check the tag. NG.
X33D80 Oct 12th, 08, 04:30 PM Did you notice the rear float bowl that was used on the front of the carb? It should be easy enough to find the right float bowl, and an easy fix if you wanted to buy the car.
Z282NV Oct 12th, 08, 04:54 PM What do you think about this comment in the write up?...
"Fast 440 is please to offer rare Black on Black example with zero miles since It's full and very recent restoration...".
That engine compartment does not look to recent to me.
BelAirBob Oct 12th, 08, 04:56 PM Yeah, definitely looks like an older resto. I confess, though, I'm really starting to like the looks of the flat hooded Z's instead of the endless numbers of cowl hood cars.
buzzworth Oct 12th, 08, 05:00 PM yeah, but look at the babe ! wonder if all that equipment is original.

Not sure, too hard to tell unless you lift the hood...maybe she has the rear float bowl on the front as well?!
jd502 Oct 12th, 08, 06:04 PM Is there a chance that is self etching primer in the trunk area?
William Oct 12th, 08, 07:07 PM Nope. That is undisturbed original spatter/Frost green.
JeffD Oct 12th, 08, 07:16 PM Don,
I'm guessing that your "NG" comment about the trim tag means "no good." I will second that "no good" opinion on the trim tag. I think it's one of the more recent counterfeits . . . better than some of the earlier ones, but still apparent under scrutiny.

drbrick Oct 12th, 08, 07:17 PM Ive got a frost green 69 and the trunk hinge support has the same frost green paint as that Black Z.I wonder if maybe mine could have been a black Z once also.lol
jl8dale Oct 12th, 08, 08:38 PM I've looked at this link 3 times now and do not see any pics of the trunk. Can somebody post this pic?

jl8dale Oct 12th, 08, 08:49 PM Thank you. It sure looks like Frost Green to me too.
zbo2 Oct 12th, 08, 09:33 PM looks like that green self-etching primer for aluminum to me, but why you would use it there i don't know.
csn69ss Oct 12th, 08, 09:45 PM Thank you. It sure looks like Frost Green to me too.
looks a tad darker than frost green to me::yes:

Fred Mertz Oct 12th, 08, 10:29 PM No shoulder harness seat belts. And NO plug in block above the timing cover that I can see.
RamAirDave Oct 12th, 08, 10:35 PM And NO plug in block above the timing cover that I can see.
A maybe in one pic, but nothing definitive either way. If anyone is interested in buying the car, go check out the car or have someone you trust do so.
Everett#2390 Oct 13th, 08, 04:54 AM Nice car and as said, different with a flat hood and the wheels.
Interior light backwards.
Cyl #3 needs it plug wire pushed on further.
Shouldn't the carb linkage be attached to the large upper hole via rubber grommet and plastic bushing?
What's with the cable clip and cable attached to the upper bracket? I don't think the clip should be there.
Still a nice car.
Camullet Oct 13th, 08, 06:53 AM That's zinc primer. You know, to prevent rust...
You guys and your bashing are too much sometimes.
RSSSfanatic Oct 13th, 08, 07:03 AM Not sure, too hard to tell unless you lift the hood...maybe she has the rear float bowl on the front as well?!
I don't know about that - I was just wondering if those are original equipment T-3 headlights!

So do you think it was originally a 10 10 coded X77 car?
Looks like Frost Green to me.
admiral Oct 13th, 08, 08:25 AM If anyone is interrested in the car i live real close to the guy i can go check it out just let me know. Keith
Mark C Oct 13th, 08, 10:22 AM You don't have to check it out, the trim tags a fake so it doesn't really matter what color it is, or was. It might really have been a Z28 originally but now it will always be questions.
"DON'T FOOL WITH THE TAG"
RSSSfanatic Oct 13th, 08, 11:09 AM How can you guys tell so easily that it's a fake? Whoever did it, if it is one, went the extra mile to make it look "distressed". Most of the ones that look questionable to me are perfect and shiny.
Seriously, inquiring, uneducated minds would like to see some tips for spotting fake tags, besides the obvious like doctored rivets, scrape marks on the firewall, etc.
click Oct 13th, 08, 11:57 AM Tom, the experts in tags wont disclose how they know... if they did, then the bad guys would learn and change their methods accordingly and try again to cheat the folks. Its best left to those that have accumulated years of pictures and are willing to point out the fake ones, for free :D
sdphilips Oct 13th, 08, 01:26 PM looks like she has had a color change as well....Would need to see her Trim Tag to be sure.

LOL...that was great....I'll bet her trim tag would reveal a color change!
William Oct 13th, 08, 03:51 PM That's zinc primer. You know, to prevent rust...
You guys and your bashing are too much sometimes.
Nope; that is original trunk spatter/Frost green. I have looked at a few thousand of these in the last 33 years of the hobby and I know exactly what I am looking at.
This car, whatever it was, was originally Frost green.
sdphilips Oct 13th, 08, 05:02 PM LOL...that was great....I'll bet her trim tag would reveal a color change!
glad you enjoyed it...i couldn't resist...
