I have a 69 Camaror Convertible, has a 350, all is well, but I can't seem to find an alternator that works. I buy one, put it in, the gage shows a discharge and the store tests it and says it is bad. I'm on #4 now. I changed the voltage reg twice. I did add the gage kit and although the wiring was easy, I noticed on the directions that come with the alt says with gages the white wire from the alt goes to ignition and with the idiot light it goes to the regulator second position down. The wiring instructions from the gage kit did not have me move that wire so it still goes to the regulator. If I unplug it, the Gen light comes on. Not sure if it does need to be moved and of so, where I shoul pick up ignition from. I added the gages before I got the car running, so am not sure if it worked before or not.Tired of replacing alternators though, could sure use some help.
Thanks

First, what kind of gauge are you installing? Ammeter, shunt or series type? Voltmeter?
I would unhook the gauge package and make the charging system work first, Then add the gauge pkg.

Yes, white wire stays where its at, second position down marked #2 terminal on the VR and left terminal looking forward at the rear of the alternator. And yes, unplug it and the GEN light comes on.

The blue wire is from the F terminal on the VR to the right terminal on the alt looking forward at the rear of the alt.

if it is from pep boys you will have a lifetime of replacing the alt. ive had bad problems with pep boys alts and starters. so bad i had them check them before i even put it on a car. and they had 3 bad ones from start. another time 7 alts before a good one.
