View Full Version : nos bumpers
RSR Oct 14th, 08, 05:42 AM Does anybody know how many years chevrolet continued to produce new front and rear bumpers for the first gen camaros. And what color would the part # decal be?With so much stuff being faked these days it would be easy to make a part # sticker and put in on one of the better repo bumpers and sell it for nos. Thanks team camaro for the greatest site on earth!
smith69z Oct 14th, 08, 06:23 AM I bought a 69 rear bumper that still had the GM sticker on it and it looked the same as the blue/white sticker that was on my cowl hood. The standard GM sticker.
RSR Oct 14th, 08, 08:12 AM I just found out from my chevrolet parts guy that the 68 rear was sold until 1980 and a 69 rear was sold until 1995.Both have the same blue/white stickers with different part numbers .The sticker looks very close to the same as nos quarters and hoods you see for sale.
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Oct 14th, 08, 02:55 PM If you have after market to compare to the Gm are much heavier....
Sauron67MM Oct 14th, 08, 04:07 PM I bought an OTC front bumper for my 67 from the dealer in 1986. Typical blue and white sticker. Part#3929954
KevinW Oct 14th, 08, 05:39 PM Real NOS GM bumpers were coated in blue wax to protect the chrome. Very hard to duplicate that!
And they would look like this :)

Sauron67MM Oct 14th, 08, 06:09 PM I have NOS windshield molding with the above mentioned coating.
RSR Oct 14th, 08, 07:52 PM I see your part number sticker is green and white and with the rubber coating. That is the same part number on the blue and white sticker I seen and the man is calling it nos?
Sauron67MM Oct 15th, 08, 02:17 AM I bought an OTC front bumper for my 67 from the dealer in 1986. Typical blue and white sticker. Part#3929954
Sorry, I should have said aqua.
KevinW Oct 15th, 08, 05:09 AM The old blue labels do fade to a light blue :D
RSR Oct 15th, 08, 08:09 AM I understand things fade but the rear bumpers I bought for nos have very new looking blue/white sticker with what appears to be a stamped and is not in line with each part number.Have I been scamed? That's what the question is on my mind.I have 69 nos quarters with blue/white stickers and the part number is larger like the pics Kevin W posted. If somebody could post a bumper with a blue/white sticker it may look the same as mine? Thanks
DjD Oct 15th, 08, 09:24 AM The date on this sticker is 1981... By then I don't think GM was in production making many 1st gen parts so most over the Chevy parts counter parts were made by a 3rd party for GM. I think this would warrant them being called NORS "new old replacement stock"

This second pic is the same sticker but shows what a camara can do to change colors... Compare Kevins sticker to my bluer one but also look at the part number placement and size of the color stripe and overall size...

RSR Oct 15th, 08, 06:56 PM Thanks for the info Dennis.I see it's a 69 front. The stickers on the bumpers I have look very much like the one on kevin's but blue/white sticker and smaller numbers in the middle and not in line. They look as if maybe they were stamped with the part numbers, kinda out of line. My stickers look almost like the ones on some quarter panels from 1992 i have.Nothing but blue at the top a little at the bottom and open in the middle on white paper. No dates ect. Thanks again,RS
RSR Oct 16th, 08, 09:23 AM I don't have any pics to post but the bumper were bough from ebay item numbers are 230292342637-230292340097 and you can see the part number stickers.Just asking what anybody thinks here.Since seeing the other part stickers here I'm suspicious. Also the seller would never talk and assure me the bumpers are not repos with a counterfiet part number sticker.Without finding a real NOS bumper to compair these to I have no idea. Thanks Team Camaro for all you help.RS

RSR Oct 16th, 08, 10:20 AM Yes I did look at the feedback and also took a chance.I never been one to judge another from what I hear but now it's adifferent story. What'd think are these counterfiet?

If you notice the pictures that Kevin W and DjD posted, the insides of the real GM NOS bumpers are not finished nearly as well as the auction bumpers. Also notice the edge chrome on the known REAL GM Bumpers is rough? unlike the auction bumpers.
I bought a NOS 69 Rear bumper many years ago and it looked like Kevin W,s.
Sorry to have to say this but If I had to guess I would say the auction bumpers look like Repo. IMO.
Sauron67MM Oct 16th, 08, 05:17 PM To substantiate the above observations. My NOS bumpers were not finished that nicely either on the inside. Nor are the edges that clean as mentioned. They even have surface imperfections that are not evident in show quality chrome.
He may have found a legal loophole. They could be rechromed origional bumpers and that is technically the correct part#. They are called incomplete truths, are they not?
DjD Oct 16th, 08, 05:28 PM Today GM licenses all kinds of repro parts and lets the manufacture put a GM sticker and part number on them. Where do you think all the stuff in blue GM boxes and wrappers on e-bay comes from? Same with most of what you get from GM parts direct.

My statements were made more in observation of the differences between old NOS and newer licensed products. Not necessarily condemning GM licensed parts of which I am a buyer as well.
It would seem that caution flags are flying vehemently within this hobby regarding the authenticity of cars and parts. An unfortunate situation created by predators adding an uneasiness to what should be a form of pleasure and contentment.
DjD Oct 16th, 08, 07:46 PM Scott you are right in being cautious, it would not be a hard task to buy up batches of repro parts and print some stickers...
