Why would a voltage regulator make a buzzing sound like an old door bell?
When I turned my car off ... I thought I should answer the door.
I have never heard of anything like this before, so I quickly pulled the connector from the regulator and it stopped. When I plugged it back in later it seemed fine until about 2 hours later when I discovered the battery was now dead. Does this seem like a voltage regulator problem or the result of another problem showing up at the regulator? Any insight sure would be nice since I'm real paranoid about fire......

Thanks

Here's a dumb question...are you positive it was the voltage regulator? The horn relay doubles as the key warning buzzer and the horn relay supplies power to the interior of the car.

I think it time to replace that regulator... with an electronic one. I had constant problems with mine and the "new" maintanance free batteries twenty years ago. I couldn't keep the battery charged with out the regulator sticking. I replaced my alternator with an internal regulator one and so;ved my problem.

Definitely sounds like the key buzzer which is through the horn relay. It's the pink wire, so you might try disconnecting that and see if the problem persists.

Would disconnecting the VR result in disabling the buzzer on the HR? I ask because I don't know.
