So for YEARS I've been trying to get my camaros to run as fast as Lonnie's daily driver but year in year out I come up a few tenths/MPH short. Sooo, last night we met up at the track and earlier that day I had removed my restrictive cheapo mufflers and went with a pipe, no muffler (can you say loud?).

So we got in line together and low and behold we got paired up and the grudge match is on, Lonnie vs Paul, seasoned drag racing vet versus the up and comer. So I do my burn out, get up to the line....pre stage, make sure everything is right (fan off, shifter in the right gear, etc), stage...okay here it is for ALL the marbles could this be the year, could it????

Here come the lights...yellow, yellow, yellow-mash the pedal and hang on...wait, where's Lonnie??? Hope he's okay, I mean did his car break or something? At half track I look to my left, oh crap there he is coming on strong...Hang on little camaro, you can do it!!! Look to my left again as we are almost to the line and there he is, uh-oh this is gonna be close!!

We cross the line and he zips past me, hmmm did I win? When I get my slip I see that my lane was the "winner"....Nice, LOL!!!

Technically I won but he did ET and MPH better than me, he, he!!

Lonnie / Me
R/T .291 / .068
60' 1.734 / 1.599
330 4.987 / 4.822
1/8 7.678 / 7.598
MPH 91.32 / 87.99
1000 10.010 / 10.011
1/4 12.009 / 12.076
MPH 112.94 / 109.42

Ye-haw, Paul wins!!! He did get faster that night but I stayed away and only made one more pass...I figured I better quit while I was ahead, LOL!

He started coming on just past 1/8 mile. Great race!

That's what drag racing is all about. It's not always the fastest car that wins. It's even more rewarding when you win with a hole shot.

You got him with a hole-shot win. That counts for sure -- not even "technically" it's legit :D

I beat my friend like that all the time. Since I bracket race pretty regular I can usually cut a decent light, and he is rusty. Makes him mad when I win and he goes 2/10th faster :D

Great job on the legitimate win:hurray:
even if Lonnie was sleeping at the line.:boring:
And the 12.07 is a respectable time for a regular street car. Unlike Eric's 10.0 sleep over there.;)

Right on Paul! I was wondering where you had been...

No lucky cap Jack, but I did have my lucky lead weights in the car. I found out that my car is 250 lbs heavier than Lonnie's...that sucks!! I did have a full tank of gas though.

Rebel, we are in Phoenix at Firebird Raceway. It's kind of hot here too. It's been in the mid 90's for the last 4 or 5 days. When I left the track at around 11 it was about 75 degrees I think.

Yeah Paul, how many tools did you have in your trunk? No wonder your front end comes up so high, lol. I don't get it, I would think they would be similar. I had less than 1/2 tank, I have A/C, rear wheels are steel 15x8's. RS stuff can't weigh that much more??? Is your helmet made out of lead?

Been thinking about that all weekend...not sure where the weight is. I could maybe find 100 lbs between me, tools and gasoline but ???
