I just moved to Greenville, NC, and need to have a new clutch put in my 69', however I am not really sure where to start in terms of looking for a good reliable mechanic. Any recommendations...I dont really want to take it to a chain place b/c I think they will charge more for what should be a simple remove/replace job....
Any advice is appreciated...how much should a clutch r/r run me? I asked more about specifics on a new clutch on the transmission board.
Thanks

I'd start out by finding a car club in the area and getting referrals from them.

I'm available. Been building Muscle Cars and Hi-Perf Engines most my life and have a class A but alas I'm now semi retired with no shop and bored stiff. If you find a club that wants to foot for a descent shop and pay for an in house mechanic give me a call - LOL

Tom's got a good idea. Also, I'd check with AAA...or try to get a reference.

I don't know how good they are, but you could run down to Clemon's on HWY 11 (take 11 south from Greenville, Clemon's will be on your right just about before you get into Kinston). They always seem to have some kind of old iron being worked on when I drive past there. Buddy Beard of Beard's Auto does good work, but that's in Kinston. Can't tell ya anything about Greenville though, I live in Kinston and only travel to Greenville on Wednesdays.
If you want to have someone you know to do the work but need a shop to do it in, give me a holler. I've got a two post lift and a few tools sitting around not being used.
Hope ya find someone reliable.
