: 67RS, 12bolt, Multi-Leaf
deere2210 Oct 21st, 08, 05:53 PM I'm hoping you guys can help point me in the right direction.. I have a 67RS that I am doing a resto-mod on.. In looking through things, it appears there have been a number of additions/modifications over the years..
The rear axle/differential is a 12 bolt - Multi Leaf, and from what I can tell from the tags it looks like it was cast on 08/16/68, and the gear is a 3.07 made in 68.. (BL 08...). In reading through all the different posts, it looks like 67's were all sold with a monoleaf config and shocks mounted to the front of the axle (were 67's all mono leaf?).. I'm assuming the rear axle/differential got swapped out along the way.. It needs shocks installed, but was wondering if there is anything special from a shocks standpoint I need to take into consideration? I looked at Bilstein's but wasn't really sure which one to go with?
67SS&99SS Oct 21st, 08, 06:52 PM 67's had a different shock setup than a 68 and 69 camaro. The shocks were staggered in 68-69 for improved handling whereas 67s were not. Your setup definately sounds like it was swapped out in the past.
Some info on shocks.

batboy Oct 22nd, 08, 12:00 PM I believe the 67 SS cars had multi-leaf springs. As long as you use the correct lower shock plate for the 67, you'll be fine.
EDIT: now I'm not so sure, I don't see multi-leaf shock plates for the 67. The mono-spring plate will work, but sometimes you need a shock extender if you have a multi-leaf spring.

Dougs72Nova Oct 22nd, 08, 12:18 PM 67 Camaro 12 bolts were exclusively mono leaf. I'm pretty sure it would have had the traction bar brackets welded to it as well on the right side. I also thought that the 12 bolt was only available for the ss model in 67. Someone please chime in if i am off on this.
BPOS Oct 22nd, 08, 02:59 PM ALL 67's were mono-leaf. Are your shock plates for mono or multi? Do you have multileaf springs?

L30/M20's received the 12 Bolts also. Radius rods were a mid year introduction.
pdq67 Oct 22nd, 08, 05:44 PM I was just going to say that my Dec. '66 car doesn't have factory traction bars on it.
Please go over to CRG's site and read up on this stuff. good info.

clwilcox33 Oct 23rd, 08, 08:14 AM Lots of misinformation in this post. All 67s had mono-leaf springs and Non-staggered shocks, regardless of if it was an SS/Z-28/RS/etc.
Radius Rods didn't come into production until mid-year.
I believe, there are documented cases of very early SS's and Z's with 10 bolts (needs further verification from a CRG member)
L30/M20 cars also could have 12 bolts, not just SS's and Z's.
L30/M20 cars started getting 12 bolts between 02B and 02E, and some received Radius Rods.

No staggered shocks. That started in 68.

Crap, that was just a typo. You know I knew that ;) I meant non-staggered. Thanks for the correction. I fixed it.
The Sleeper 327 Oct 23rd, 08, 10:27 AM question.....a PG 12 bolt rear end in 1967 would be 3:31 gears and exclusively for SS350 4sp cars correct? In other words, this rear end would not be in a L30/M20 originally right?
67 Plum Oct 23rd, 08, 10:47 AM No expert but you could order just about any ratio you wanted.Dont see why you couldnt get it in a L30 car.I think thats what PDQ67 has in his car.
The Sleeper 327 Oct 23rd, 08, 12:33 PM PG in my book said SS350 4spd...so yes I was wondering if this rear end with this stamping could come in other cars.

Post the question in Tag Team. You will get an answer there.

hereitis67 Oct 23rd, 08, 07:09 PM 67rs for your first question for the shocks it doesnt matter mono leaf or multi leaf springs in a 67. correct is a mono leaf but i got same setup as you in a 67 multi leaf. the shocks are the same no matter what. same total travel and same fully compressed point. i went over this with davidpossi a year and half ago. cause i wondered if shocks where different or not
pdq67 Oct 23rd, 08, 11:27 PM 3-leaf mono replacements are in here too for more modern springs, imho.
