I have a 69 SS/RS 396 that went through a rotisserie about 10 years ago. The car is in perfect condition but I believe the previous owner did not drive the car very much.

The car has been great and I typically drive it on the weekends but only on a 2 mile loop. I was told this is not good for the car as it needs to get to operating temp. Can you please advise if this is true?

My car sat for two week while I was on a business trip and I noticed two nickel size spots under the trans. I inspected and it appears that one spot is toward the front and the other is in the center of the tranny. There appears to be some residue coming from the side plate (with I think 4 bolts) just below the shifter and could be forming down to the bottom of the case.

I've read in previous post that after sitting the o-rings need to get to operating temp to swell up. Could the leaks be from sitting.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Running the car for 1 good 25-30 trip helps alot rather than 2 miles.

Muncies are known to leak, especially from the clustershaft shaft as it is not sealed at the front of the main case, hence, the leak from the front.

Last time I had the tranny out, I put some RTV at that location and never had it leak again.

Also can't hurt to make sure the side cover bolts are all tight, and the speedo cable attachment is tight as well. Check the obvious stuff before we start talking about pulling the tranny.

Thanks for the reply. So I guess the leak is not caused because I haven't been driving it but that Muncie's just leak.

I also saw a leak from the bottom of the case but there's no crack. Saw in a past post that the case can seep fluid?
