:hurray:What is happening everyone
Last weekend I fired up the 67 after almost of year of working, learning, reading, cussing, laughing at my self, not doing s#@&!
1968 327 punched 30
67 192 valve double hump heads opened up 202 and ported, polished
stainless roller rockers, z28 cam
1986 TPI from a 305 camaro complete, harness,ecm,
Serpentine belt setup from a 92 camaro with all accs.
One day if anybody is interested I will tell the whole story
but for now
with a 700r and motor combo what would be the best gear choice for cruising and daily driving
thanks for all the knowledge from everyone on the forum

My '67 RS/SS has a 700R4 and a 12 bolt with 3.31 gears. It would probably make a good daily driver. Those gears work well for the highway.
Myself, I would prefer 3.55's (better) or 3.73's (BEST). You give up a little for highway driving but it will be much more spirited.

I think u would find the 308 just a bit to low
Oh saw the thread title "308 to ? "
My 1st thought was what the hell would u guys know about the GM 308 engine..let alone ever heard of it!!!
And yeah like the chevy sb one can change most stuff with it.

I want to say 3.73's w/ a 700 b/c of it's OD.
1st gear will go fast tho.........
Something close to 12 to 1 in low gear, (3.73 x 3.27?), but like 3.73 x .7 = 2.6 or whatever in high gear OD b/c I don't have my tranny gear ratio table in front of me right now.
And install a cam that will work fine in OD or she will buck b/c it won't be in the cam's "sweet spot" cruise range in OD.
Please do your gear ratio homework here.
And don't forget your rear tire diameter here too!!!!!!!

hey thanks
as far as tire size 275/40/17 I am 12 3/8 from ground to center
just asking for some expert advice as my rear end gearing knowledge is limited and nothing
is better than finding out from someone who already has the set up and likes it

Just to give u a rough pcture of what happens
With a 350 and a 308 diff 235/60/14" in Drive 60 mph is about 2400 rpm
Around town at 30 mph about 1200 rpm
With the 700 in top this works out to about 1600 on higway and basically idle or below idle at 30 mph
So u need a small carb and a bottom end cam if the reason for going to 700 is economy
A cam/carb that works well up in the rpm range at these levels and under slow acceleration or a hill will chew thru the gas big time as it is working way out of its rpm range, even at cruise no load.

Remember this equation.
MPH = (rpm x tire dia)/(rearend gear ratio (w or w/o OD?) x 336).
And don't forget w/ an OD, you have to multiply by it in high gear.
