Anyone have any reviews or experience with the Richmond units? My mechanic swears by them and the T10 in my car is started to make noises and pop out of 3rd :(.

What are some good 4 or 5 speed manuals that need little to no hacking and cutting to fit? Price is also a factor. Would like the cheapest, most reliable unit, that can put around 600 crank horsepower best to the ground

Did you check your shifter alignment to eliminate your hopping out of gear?

It will be hard to find a cheap and reliable 5 or 6 speed to handle a 600 hp.

It has hopped out only 1 or 2 times only when my dad was driving and I think he just didn't put it in there good enought. It does grind going into third no matter how fast, slow,RPMs, or anything.

I realize trannys are not cheap. Was wondering what the most cost effective one was for a 550 - 600 hp motor that required the least modification to fit. Are any 4 speeds capable of holding that much power? I have 3.73s in the rear and a 10 bolt with an Auburn Posi diff. I will probably never get slicks to actually hook the car so I am never worried about launching from digs and ripping out my rear end, tranny, suspension, etc. Just wondering what tranny will let me beat on it around town without dying off early. Car is a weekend warrior that isn't raced or dragged or anything, just a big motor for pure enjoyment, so I enjoy the classic look w/o slicks.

You haven't broken your T10 yet... just keep driving it. After all, you did say price is a factor. Adjust your shifter and keep on running it. I've got a richmond Super T-10, works just fine. If you're not going to be hooking the car, why worry about a tranny that could handle it?

Give Don Pearson a call. He rebuilds/sells T-10 and ST-10's.
765-860-3448 cell before 11-pm (Ohio).
You might be able to rebuild yours for less than the cost of a different one.

The closest thing to a cheap OD stick are the MOPAR A833 OD and the Ford "RUG" Top-Loader OD!

And GM did install the A833 in some P/U's back in the mid '80's.

I thought about the A833 swap for a long time before I found the ST10 that I installed. Luckily, I found one w/ the 2.88 first gear, so I can still run some reasonable gears in the axle to keep some highway manners.

Does your shifter body have the stop bolts? If your stop bolts are too tight, it may cause your 3rd gear symtoms. The rear bolt limits the throw travel for 1st and 3rd. The front bolt limits the throw travel for 2nd and 4th.

Shifter Stop Bolt Set-up Procedure:

Back both stop bolts out of shifter frame until only a few threads
remain engaged. Push stick firmly into 3rd gear and hold stick.
Screw the 3rd gear stop (rear) bolt in until contact is felt. Back bolt out one
turn and tighten jam nut. Pull stick firmly back into 4th gear.
Screw 4th gear stop (front) bolt in until contact is felt, then back stop bolt
out one turn and tighten jam nut.

I'll take a look at the shifter but was maybe interested in a 5 speed. What are some prices on some dependable units that can thrash the power out quickly? Like I said, won't be hooking the car for a long long time if at all.
