View Full Version : Very Early Built 1967 (8D)
Camaro-Guy Oct 26th, 08, 11:14 AM Hello All. I am a newbie here. But since I recently aquired my third Camaro (see details below)... and I have been viewing this forum on and off for a few years, I thought I would join.
However this posting is not about my cars. My neighbor has a '67 convertible. I was checking his car our last night and saw that it is an 8D car. And if I am reading the vin properly, it is one of the very earliest models produced. (1001xx) Wouldn't this mean that his was made within the first couple of days of production? (In the mid-100s).
Is there any public info as to the earliest known examples? I know CRG has been compiling info on these for years. I am guessing that there are lower ones than this, but I would be interested in telling my neighbor more info.
Regarding my cars:
1969 Z11 Pace Car. 4 speed.
1967 RS/SS Coupe. 4 speed. (I originally bought this car 25 years ago, but sold it about 15 years ago. I accidently found it two weeks ago and bought it back! Woo-hoo!)
1973 RS. A/T. (This was a "barn-find" that I picked up last month. Very original "survivor" car)

blue ss Oct 27th, 08, 06:23 AM it sure sounds like one of the first out to me, but im not a numbers guy. Im sure some one has some good info for ya tho. I just thought it was cool you found one that got away and bought it back. You lucky dog.
Camaro-Guy Oct 27th, 08, 12:36 PM Thanks blue SS. It was wierd 'cause one of my coworkers was looking for a Camaro on Craigslist and asked me my opinion on this RS/SS 4 speed car. I looked at his monitor and couldn't believe my eyes! :hurray: I originally bought it 25 years ago, from the original owner. I did a lot of work to it. About 10 years later, I decided it was time to save money and buy a house. So I sold it and bought an economy car. (A used Chevy Sprint.) I have always regretted it. I had to pay a lot more to buy it back and it's in worse condition. And it's missing the original documentation that went wit the car. :( (It went through 3 owners in that 15 year period) Oh well, at least it's there for me, when I decide to do restore it properly.
(I am realizing that this thread has deviated from "Tag Team" topic. Perhaps I should repost on another area in the forum?)
I still am interested in knowing more about the early build date of my neighbors car. It's a VN car. I am thinking it might have been built in the first week. Are there any 8C cars out there?

twozs Oct 27th, 08, 04:46 PM got any pictures of the 73 rs? there are guys over at www.nastyz28.com (second gen camaro site) that are looking for 73 rs nose parts. the 73 rs had special bracing that was one year only stuff. are you considering parting it out?
Camaro-Guy Oct 27th, 08, 05:10 PM Mike,
Yes I have pictures of the '73 RS. I even have a pretty cool video clip of me pulling it out of it's "tomb", a walnut tree. It was parked under this walnut tree many years ago and the canopy of the tree completely covered it. There are actually 3 other cars still under the tree. (Nothing of interest however.) I have driven by many times and never noticed.
It was hard to examine carefully because the branches made it very difficult. I assumed that the interior was trashed becuase it was filthy and cluttered. And I assumed that it had some rust. However after getting it home and doing some cleaning, I saw that other than the front lower seat covers, the interior is near mint. And there is ZERO rust. Although it's a Rally Sport, it has the 145hp 350. :( However it is an A/C car.:) It's original paint... "Metalic Silver". It has a smashed drivers door. Other than that and a few dings, it's pretty clean. It doesn't run because it's missing the carb. and fan. I should have it up and running in a couple of weeks.
What's the easiest way to post pictures?

Kurt S Oct 27th, 08, 10:27 PM There's only about 7 67 LOS cars that have VIN's lower than 200 in the database.
Realize the first few weeks of production were a ramp-up. They were getting things ready to start cranking them out.
If possible, I'd be interested in a picture of the trim tag. You can email me at kurts2@gmail.com.
Thanks!
Camaro-Guy Oct 28th, 08, 04:55 PM Will do Kurt. It might be a few days before I can take the pictures, but I will.
A couple of questions:
Were there any 8C cars?
Is there anything unusual to look for on the very early "ramp up" cars?

Kurt S Oct 28th, 08, 09:29 PM From LA, no.
The dates on the components (if anything is original) could be interesting.
