I have a new 4 speed in the camaro. I adjust it correctly with the 1/4 alignment rod with all the gears in nuetral. I get that aligned properly and then I put on the shifter rods and adjust. I thought it was the shifter at first because I couldn't get into reverse. I have reverse now. It gets stuck in 3rd sometimes and I have to stop the car, and pop it out with a wrench. WTF?

Cou;ld the shifter not be going into 3-4 gate far enough? As in trying to shift out of 3rd ansd catching 1-2 lever and trying to shift to 2nd same stroke as pulling out of 3rd?

best thing you can do is get the car up on a lift and have a friend shift though the gears slowly so that you can see if it is contacting anywhere. When I converted my 67 over to a 4 speed, I had to pull it up on ramps quite a few times and let my dad shift it while I adjusted the linkage. I had problems with mine not going into 3rd at all.

did you change the shifter levers on the trans. like put shorter ones for a shorter throw etc? if they don't match each other (one old or different model and the other not) found me under it a few years back when i had one. it was the gm 4 speed.

I bought a new shifter thinking that it was the problem. Well, didn't need the shifter. I took the old hurst shifter out and cleaned it up nice and greased it. I will have to take it over and have Dad shift it while I adjust it correctly. I did replace the old linkage and shifter arms with the new.
