I have a set of reproduction fenders and I would like to know how to weld some metal on them so that the door to fender gap will not be so wide. What are some good ways to do this?
The gap right now is 3/8 inch and on a 69 Camaro.

Just buy some 1/8 inch rod and weld it on. Start with well spaced tacks and go slow to fill it in. Grind to get the gap that you want.

This can usualy be done by adjustment on the bolts with no need for welding. If you get them to close the door will hit the top of the fender and chip the paint and this will look worse than a wide gap.The gaps weren't ball bearing from the factory. If this is a 1320 car your not going to see the gaps at 150 mph.

Already tried adjustment at the doors. Not looking for ball bearing tolerances just better than 3/8 of an inch. Heck right now with that wide of gap it looks like the fenders could blow away at 150mph.

Welcome to repo fenders. I hate them. I know some have had good luck but after a half dozen cars and countless fenders I prefer to repair GM if possible. Not all repos are bad, just inconsistent. 1320, you may find that the fender to cowl mounting bracket is incorrect leading to inability to move fender aft. Without visualization the addition of rod as stated may prove less labor intensive. I as well have had to perform this too many times. Good luck, you'll be fine

I would try taking a heavy hammer and a block of wood to the bracket bolts to the fire wall and drive it forward I moved mine an 1/8" this way.Hope this helps there are many things that need to be mesaged along the after market way.Befor you go to paint check the grill fitment in the top corners they are not round enough you will need to have a stud welder to fix this.I needs to be pulled and filled to fit the grill.

THanks for the great suggest David but I had considered that but the lower corner of the fender is already butting up against the rocker area so there is no more adjustment because of that....but maybe I could massage that lower rocker area in some...and then take a hammer dolly to the bracket and move it forward to get some backward adjustment....I will try that tomorrow as it just might work.

Don't forget to look at your hood gaps too when attempting to just move the fender back to fit closer to the door.
