I stopped at a house today thats has a 69 camaro sitting behind there house since 1994 to see if it could be bought. The guy told me its a factory rs/ss copo, factory 456 gears with a 4spd.
Is this guy blowing smoke? I tought copo was a plain jane car atleast in chevelles. He said he had the POP and was offered 13k for it last year. The cars in Michigan and needs a complete restroration.

It could be a COPO/RS but not SS. The POP will be a good starting point.

Check the POP to see what it shows as the engine, trans and rear code. The 4.56 rear might be what he thinks is a COPO option but the car might be an RS/SS. It's worth taking a look if he'll show you the POP.

Many COPOs were plain Janes, but a few were optioned out with Custom interior and/or RS, as well as many other options.
A quick look under the hood will help determine if it's a b/b. If it is X22 or X66 it is an SS and almost certainly not COPO. The first batch of COPOs (which all went to Yenko for "conversion") were X66. I think there is one known X22 COPO, but most with Style Trim were X11, and most w/o Style Trim, were X44.
$13K for an RS/SS with POP is probably a good deal (rust dependent) and for a COPO is a steal (even if a rust bucket)

The car is suppose to have I thought he said a 5 leaf spring a t-10 trans.
My old lady wants a 69 camaro so I figured I would stop and in thinking since it been there for acouple decades it might be buyable for around 5k. and restored but i kinda thought he was bsing me when I asked him what cowl tag read x-11 x-55 etc and he sais he didnt know and was not willing to pop the hood. but knew everything else.
I will try and sneak a few pictures and post them if you guys are interested, what a shame

......hmm..if it "sounds like b.s.,looks like b.s......it is b.s.. Only reason for not letting you look under the hood is he knows you probably know enough about Trim Tags and VIN's to know what this car actually is and not what he claims the car to be. I'm bettin' it isn't a COPO, but that's just my opinion:yes:

The chances of the 250000 69 Camaros produced of one being a COPO are about 1/3 of one percent. Go figure. I think this guy is blowing smoke up your A+_)><LKJ

Sure, the chances are slim, but we've seen it come true before.
Check the POP (as well as the rest of the car if he lets you).
