I have been reading a lot of threads on painting different parts lately. I am very surprised that some of you that have become experts on paint color don't create a thread listing all the different parts and what you used to get an ORIGINAL SHOWROOM LOOK.
You spend all this time getting the right color and then you share it one piece at a time???
I am not sure I get it????
You guys that have become experts know who you are.
Why not write a thread that you list your expertise on a wide scale so that you don't have to answer 100 threads on it???

I am really not trying to be a smart aleck !!!
I am just confused that you have to read a 100 threads and then you still don't have an answer? You guys that have really done the research are way ahead of us that have not.

How about it. Someone step it up. LOL!!!
No, really. That would be a really good thread.
You don't have to start it here. Start your own.

Will,

That is a pretty good start!!!! I am guessing that there are a few people out there that have their own list that even gives the SPECIFIC spray can they used.

In other words:
I have heard guys say that a 60% gloss paint IS Rustoleum 7777.
WHAT ARE SOMEOTHERS??
What do you use when it says Silver Cadium Dichromate?
Or Gold Cadium Dichromate??
Or 30% Gloss Black?

Then what do you paint guys do with the "Natural" Parts that rust fast. Example, on the top of the A/C box is a metal clip that holds one of the metal lines down. It will rust in a month if you don't do anything to it. I sprayed it with clear, but am not sure that is the best option. Probably is not. Really looks good now and is not rusting anymore. You can buff with steel wool to get rid of the gloss effect.

Does anything clear up the discrepancies between MacNeish's Book and Camaro Seminar???

Will, thanks again for you response. That was great.

I have a copy of that print that has the correct finishes for my 67 but what Dale is pointing to would be a nice guide to go by. Not only would you have the correct finish but also what paint or protective coat was used to get there. I am at that point in my restoration and did buy the Rustoleum 7777 plus the gloss for my Radiator other then that I have been doing a lot of reading to find what others are using.

Heres some stuff, this is for a Chevelle, if you look on my website at the pictures you can see what the paints look like, this probably really isn't what your looking for, but it will give you a visual of what different colored paints will actually look like. http://www.1969supersport.com/paintprimer.html

Rob,
That is good and helpful. I still find it hard to believe that there is not a better article on the 67's that lists specific stuff like this.
What part, what color and what options to get that color. The right color.

Dale, I know what your saying.

I wrote up some stuff on this on one of the car forums quite a while back, can't remember where.

The ones with the matching numbered, original cars understand how much documentation means. But this is just as important on any car.

As an example here, if a person looking for a car finds two cars that there interested in, both cars being pretty equal in all respects. One car list all the paints and primers he used to restore it, I would think the one with the list of everything that went into it would be more desireable.

For a couple of reasons, if the car gets banged, then the body shop fixing it would have the paint and primer numbers. Also when you see good documentation that tells a prospective buyer the person that did the restoration tried to cover everything in that area.

I know I would like to know if epoxy went over the bare metal and what type of epoxy they used.

I know this isn't what you asked, but if the documentation was out there on a lot of them, it would be really easy to get, even the used car dealers would have that information.

Theres probably a few guys that have the paint and primer numbers, maybe bringing this up to the top of the pile somebody will see it.
