I recently tried listing some stuff on ebay and to my surprise ebay won't let me list unless I allow the buyer to use papal. What a rip off!! They get you comming and deffently going. What a pain:mad:

Why is it that I see things for sale that do not except Paypal...

It just started the first of the month. Per ebay:
To ensure security on the eBay marketplace, it is now mandatory for all listings to offer PayPal as a payment method. Enter a valid email address in order to receive payments

Paypal offers buyer and seller protection to cover the deadbeats and fraudulent activity. There is no charge for this service. There shouldn't be, as there is a percentage taken out of your sale when using Paypal to receive payments. Simply state you prefer Money Orders as payment. Most will oblige. Yes, I agree with the costs and fees being a rip off. But they are a business and most anyone establishing a business enterprise such as theirs is sure to do the same. They got ya and they know it. Higher prices are demanded by sellers to cover fees. Hence the high e-bay prices.

paypal cost me 265.00 as a buyier about a year ago. I bought 4 Holley carbs from one seller. I recieved nothing in the mail. I opened a dispute with him. After a number of days I recieved a credit of all my funds except 265.00 paypal said they would try to get the rest for me. I never herd back from that point.
Paypal is owned by ebay....They can do what ever they feel like doing.:noway:

If you are not diligent, then they will pursue the matter w/ the same lack of interest. I agree it depends on how much someone else matters to them. They (E-bay) have credited my account every time there was a problem. This would not have occured if I was not persistent and demanded it. I do foresee a problem at some point, that's big business for them. How, as a buyer, did YOU pay PayPal fees. There are no fees to send money. Only to receive it.

I have a started adding in 3% to cover the fees in the handling charge, gotta come out ahead someway

Ebay also increased the fixed price Buy It Now auctions to a whopping 9% Final value fee. In other words, if you sell something on Ebay for $1000, fiixed price, Buy It Now format, it costs more than $100! Oh, and that not even counting the 3% PayPal fees. That's insane money to spend to sell an item, and about double what it used to be. This fee schedule, coupled with their new nutty feedback rules have caused us to reduce our auctions by about half in number.

As an aside, Ebay layed off some 1300 workers a week ago. You'd think they'd get a clue that these changes,along with the necessity to use Paypal are being soundly rejected by sellers,and is costing them alot of business.

I phoned Ebay today, to voice my opinions and concerns over the Paypal BS. For one thing, I have always accepted US Postal MO's which are more secure than Paypal in the fact that if you do get scammed, it is considered mail fraud. The other fact that why should I be forced to use this service which is now going to cost me?? I was told by the Ebay rep to just specifiy in my description that I would prefer to be paid by MO, and not by Paypal. He also said that my complaint would be filed with the proper authorities. I read about that in the San Francisco chronicle. The volume on eBay items has dropped when the fees rose. I bet the CEO and board members still get the big bonuses.

Requiring paypal is a good thing.

I love to use paypal.
I get paid for my stuff right a way.
And when I buy something - the wife doesn't know about it.
It is my secret slush fund. :)

I specified that in an auction a couple of years ago and ebay cancelled it claiming it was against the law. They had a cute liitle name for it but I cant remember what it was. I was a power seller on ebay for for a number of years and have since quit using ebay almost a year ago because of there crazy fee increases every time you turn around. :sad: It wouldn't bother me a bit if ebay went under. Personally you reep what you sow and ebay has been screwing their sellers for years.

ebay will not let you charge more for accepting paypal.
so - I just add all their fees into my shipping charges.
If someone complains - I explain that ebay fees have gone crazy.
It is a very difficult position - The fees are absolutely ridiculous.

The prices on my website are less - I try to direct people there.

Use Craigs List. EBAY's stock is tanking and they are not doing good. So, why not screw your customers? This may really hurt EBAY.

we NEVER wait to ship anything paid with a POSTAL Money Order (or any other MO for that matter)

the postal MO's are better than cash

the post office cashes them for you and you can use the $ to pay for your postage ...

MO's do not require a clearing wait time. The extra charge sellers indicate to cover PP fees is "Fee Circumvention". An E-Bay rep told me to do what the others state and add it to the part price and S&H to cover it. They still can poke you on the final value fee if you let the auction run wild. I'm not listing much w/ them anymore and telling them why. If they even care. I've just lately been yanking the part from the listing and selling directly to the seller, they even pay the insertion fees. Parts I advertise on this site never seem to sell but as soon as they hit E-Bay they are sold. Especially NOS parts. E-Bay's greed has forced me to end my relationship w/ them.

Im not sure where this belongs but its about PayPay and ebay not 'what's it worth'. I will try Bench and see if it fits there better for now.

Don't even get me started on paypal!

I paid for a disc brake conversion kit from a webstore (not ebay) and never recieved it.

This happened about 3 months ago, btw and paypal said buer protection is only for ebay items and they tried to debt the sellers paypal acct. but there was no funds so I was out of luck and lost my 500.00 basiclly, so I contacted my bank and they did a reversal from my bank acct. to paypal.

I got my money back but now have a negative bal. with paypal, and they keep trying their hearts out to get the 500.00 lol no way!

What is that site they mention on Dream Car Garage for selling and buying old cars? I think they say its free.
