'69 camaro sold in Feb of '69 in CA.

I'm hoping black but probably blue.

What do the gods think?

I think some of the early '70 model year cars got the black plates as well.

Black for sure. I bought a new one in April 69 and got a black plate Yxx-###. A friend bought one in March 69 and his plate was YPx-###. The blue plates occured because they ultimately hit ZZZ-999 and had to start an entirely new series in the fall of 1969.

I know trucks for sure got black plates at the start of 1970... How's it going?

Well, typically, the new models were released in August of the preceding year. In other words, 1970 models were released in August 1969. The exception was the 69 Camaro which ran long, well into the fall as I recall. California went to the blue plates in the fall of 69 which would dovetail with 70 models having blue plates. Someone pointed out in another thread that certain DMV's might have had black plates (plates were shipped to the DMV's for distribution to those registering cars via DMV premises so it could have happened that a black plate was distributed later in 1969 even after the blue plates were released. Logically, they would have been instructed to use all the black plates before going to the blue.

Dan that's a late sale for a '68. I don't remember anything about the build date on my old '68. Looks like the plate on it could have been a reissue. It was VND 987. Much higher than yours. The dates really don't line up.

It was Lemans blue w/white stripes, std blue interior, tic-toc-tac, with console gauges and wood wheel. When I got it, it already had a CE motor. Everything else was bone stock. This was in '71.

I miss it.

Fred ,My car is a 07A build date, same week as some of the 68 Chevy II Nova SS L78 Copo cars with the Special automatics. 1968 Nova 396 cars were late production cars.I also have a 1968 07C L78 Nova SS 4spd car and another real Special 07B 1968 Nova SS 4spd,L-88 transplant when new!

Trucks used a different sequence and they kept using them for a while, not sure how long...
