Everytime I try to start the car it makes a loud noise like the timing is off..also a poof of smoke will come out of the carb..It just started doing this in cold weather,im not sure if that has anything to do with it tho..I checked the timing and it looks good..When the car finllay starts and I get to drive it nothing seems wrong.Every now and then it will feel sluggish out of first gear and the car has trouble staying on but other than that it feels fine..Any ideas why its misfiring ??

cracked distributor cap? plug wires shorting to ground? You think its a carb or timing problem? A wise ol fart on here once told me most of the time, your carb problems can be fixed with the distributor. thats how I approach them now...
