Has anyone tried to have the rs headlamp motors rebuilt? I have date codes on the base of the motor mounts and would like to use the originals. Has anyone tried to have them rebuilt? Any success or advice or parts?

I took a motor apart once to see what I could do. The bottom half of the motor has several sets of small planetary gears On the one I had the last set was stripped out and the housing is the ring gear and it was stripped also. I do not know of a way to replace them. possibly something from a cordless drill?
I do know how to make 4th Gen Firebird motors fit. And if you want can elaborate. but they do not even look close to original. of the other replacement motors the retro-electric (sp?) seem to me to look closest to original.

No way I have found to fix orig. I own two 67 rs cars one is a 40K mile survivor car. I replaced one on it last year and kept the orig. just to say I have it. Put it in the box with the orig. spark plugs and plug wires for someone to drool over one day. The dates were sort of silk-screened on all the headlight and grill components and unless it was a very sheltered orig. car they would be illegible by now anyhow. GOOD LUCK, but I think you are fighting a losing battle.

I've gotten lucky with the set I had and oiled them up (spray with wd-40) during a packer game and got mine to work again. Theyre are very many spiral (orbital) parts running up and down them that freeze up. Otherwise, besides playing with them and trying to loosen them up, I'm not to sure on what the next best route would be.

Very difficult to fix yourself unless it is something simple, like lubrication.

I placed 4th Gen motor application information in the electrical section. In the electrical sticky section on electrifying your RS.

Lucky me... My car was sheltered and I can still read BOTH dates and they correspond perfectly to the build date of my car. They look like a stamp made of white paint with a date and a part number. If I didn't have all the paperwork already I would probably be celebrating that I had more proof of a real RS car. I think I will buy some new motors and put these back in the boxes. Thanks guys!
