I have a 68 327 stock engine from what I know. I went to fill up gas several weeks ago and after the car sat for a few hours after filling up it would continue to stall during idle if I was not accelerating. As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator the engine will stall out. I dont know if this happens to be a coincidence that the problems started shortly after getting gas or not.

I noticed the fuel filter was full of crap and replaced that and also tried spraying the carb with a cleaner. Any other suggestions for what the problem can be?

Crap in the carb...a quick old school side of the road fix...
take air filter off, engine running, take rpms up a bit, hand over the carb and pull a big vaccuum, the pull your hand off fast just before the engine cuts out...do it 4 or 5 times.

Should have added, pull the carb float vaves and make sure these dont have any crap in, itf the above works...pull the valves after a 5 or 10 mile run, just to make sure they are clear.
Often a bit of crap can sit in them, no effect, then move causing flooding etc.
To reset these, set float level lowish
Start engine for bowls to fill
Kill engine, a rag under the bowl side scews, take the screw out, shake the car, the fuel should just 'slop' out the hole...If the level is low u can adjust float level up while the car is running.
