View Full Version : Restoration Literature
reelknots Nov 10th, 08, 09:52 AM Can anyone recommend a book on "How to restore your 69 Camaro"? I'm looking for a source to show how to properly replace trunk pans, floor pans, body bushings, suspension items, etc. PLUS I'd have something to read in bed!
Thanks
Steve
KevinW Nov 10th, 08, 10:18 AM Steve, all of the info in those "how to restore" books pales in comparison to the info here. With that said, the books I reference the most are the AIM, Jerry MacNeish's Z/28 guide, Fisher body manual, AMK fastener catalog and out of print Camaro guide books. On the lessor side, Chevy parts books (with illustrations). The best info is in the various web sites of other people's work where they show during pics. Surf the web and enjoy. Take the AIM to bed, because you will need that info eventually! :D

Good reply, You will also find differing opinions on how to restore certain things. The search function here is your friend! GL
Unreal Nov 10th, 08, 12:43 PM I found that the How To books were too light on detail to be an instruction manual. However, they are great for general knowledge. I bought one, read through it, and never picked it up again.
From then on, I went to my local "Free Library" (AKA Barnes and Noble) for general books.
MacNeish's book, the AIM, and the GM/Fisher books are all you need. The first two are readily available from Resto houses or ebay. The last 3 (Fisher, Overhaul, and Repair, I think) are all available on ebay. They cover all 69's except Corvette in each one. I found all mine on ebay, one at a time. A set of all 3 is more expensive than individuals, but cuts down on the search time.
reelknots Nov 10th, 08, 12:58 PM Thanks fellas. That's exactly what I was looking, and I have learned quite a bit already from the folks on this site. The reason I like books is I can reference things over and over again and don't have to bother other people for every question since I'm not at the stage where I can give back yet. What does AIM stand for? I googled it and came away scratching my head!!
