: More Exhaust systems
JimM Apr 10th, 00, 03:54 AM I got the ragtop beck on the road this weekend. I used coated Hooker Comp headers, they fit perfectly, on a power steering car. I also used Flowmaster's 17139 American Thunder exhaust system. This system fit perfectly. I put it in in my garage with just some wrenches and a sawzall. The polished stainless tailpipes are pure art, as is the sound. I've read other posts here complaining about excessive noise and resonance from Flowmaster's, I have none. No resonance at all, even with the back seat still out. The sound level is aggressive, but not excessive. I will need to fabricate some 1" spacers so I can reinstall the ragtop floorbrace, but it'll work. I highly recommend this system.
sixtsevnssrs Apr 10th, 00, 04:31 AM Thanks jim, I am looking forward to installing the American Thunders soon. Soon as I get the money. Whats the going price, 416.99 is what I have been quoted. Fair price? Let me know.
Just found this site with some pretty cool wav files of flowmaster exhausts. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/3653/flowmaster.html

Lonnie67 Apr 10th, 00, 08:36 AM $416 is way too high! Summit Racing has the 17139 for about $320 and the 17129 for about $260, Summit ships any size order for $7. 1-800-230-3030. I'm about to order it myself.

67drake Apr 10th, 00, 02:44 PM I put a 40 series Flowmaster transverse mounted muffler and 2 1/4" pipes, headers, on my car last year.My only complaint is that it is too quiet!I don't know if it has to do with the balancer tube I installed at the same time, but this thing is so mellow I am considering getting something else.I know what you mean though, everybody said how loud it was going to be,and it is quietier than the stock 2" system that it replaced. No B.S.
I do like the exhaust note, just to quiet.

JimM Apr 12th, 00, 11:11 AM Hey guys, the xx139 system cost me $318 from summit last week, and it's definitely not TOO quiet!!!
SAyers69 Apr 12th, 00, 02:10 PM I got my 2.5" Flowmaster system coming up on 4 years ago before they came out with the Delta Series. I havent heard them yet but my is as loud as a Harley. And interior noise is deafining. I have to shut my car off just to order food at the drive thru.
sixtsevnssrs Apr 12th, 00, 07:56 PM Fast food for fast cars.
JimM Apr 13th, 00, 04:13 AM Mine has, I think, the series 30 Delta's. When I first fired it up in the garage, it damn scared me to death. It sounds good out in the air, though, and interior noise is not bad. Do have to shut it down at a drive-up window, though.
Chris Edwards Apr 17th, 00, 04:31 AM Ijust had new exhaust (from manifolds back) put on my 67 R/S friday, I ended up choosing Dynomax superturbos for the mufflers, the flowmasters sounded trendy, and with my close to stock cam it sounded nicer and more rumbly with the Dynomax, I would recommend them myself, but everyone has personal preferences...

laabs Apr 17th, 00, 05:16 PM Jim, I'm looking at the flowmaster exhaust. Would it work with 3/4 length headers? Why'd you need the sawzall? Please tell me it was to cut off the old exhaust.

jrt67ss350 Apr 17th, 00, 06:56 PM JimM,
I hear ya man! I've had the American Thunder system on my car for a year and a half now and absolutely love it. I drive my 67 coupe everyday (it is my only car) and I must say that was the best economical investment I ever made in my car's performance and sound. I bought the 67 system without the polished tips. I ordered the system from some riceboy shop in town who beat Summit's price. I paid $270 for the complete system, brand new! I normally wouldn't have been caught dead in a riceboy shop, but they gave me a really good deal. Best $270 I ever spent on my car.
LAABS,
I needed a sawsall to remove the old system and to cut the new system's pipes to the correct length to mate with my headers.....Don't worry....no precious 30+year old sheetmetal needs to be touched. The system even mounts with the original dual exhaust's bolt holes!

gearhead67 Apr 20th, 00, 03:52 PM jrt67, I checked out your web page and I have to ask you what rim/tire combination you are running. You have exactly what I what I am looking for ... I love it!! Not too big and not too small. Any info will be helpfull. Thanks!!
Cmaro tips needed Jan 11th, 05, 09:57 AM this site has given me lots of help but i could still us some advice on exhaust systems. I have a 78' camaro Z28 and it needs new exhaust badly before it gets back on the road. It's my daily driver so i need somthing thats not to loud to draw atention from the frendly local athority who we all dont like to meet on a regular basis. I need somthing at a reasnable price and somthing thats not going to rob HP from my rebuilt 350. so any advice would be great! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
JimM Jan 11th, 05, 02:15 PM wow, welcome aboard, tips needed... dusted this off from FOUR years ago? Well, I'm still here, still got the same 68 vert, and the flows are still on it. Gettin a bit noisy, but that might be just me. Did I reply to this in another section this afternoon? Must be gettin old.
SLEEPER 86 Jan 11th, 05, 03:42 PM gotta love it!
good job on the search!
welcome,
Eric
DOUG G Jan 12th, 05, 03:55 AM I have the AT system too, but on a HT Camaro. It sounded mellow at first, but now that its "burnt in" it has gotten louder. The only resonance I have is at idle and in gear,so if its a long light I'll put it in neutral. No biggie.
jackalope Jan 12th, 05, 04:35 PM Who has used anything aside from flowmaster stuff???
I was looking into a system from pypes
http://pypesexhaust.com/
Im leaning towards theese guys because they arent as one person put "trendy" as flows, and they offer a system with cutouts built in.
I was wondring if any of you guys have used ther stuff please let me know.
JimM Jan 13th, 05, 02:45 AM Have you searched here for "pypes" Brian? I know others have used their stuff, particularly the x-pipe.
