Years and years ago I pulled a set of Camel Hump 1.94 heads off a 66 Chevy wagon for a project down the road. Well I'm building a little bracket motor for my Vega and when I dug the heads out of storage I was shocked to see the heads had different casting numbers, I never looked at them side by side until today. My question is could I still use them ? one is #3782461 (62cc) and the other is #3890462 (64cc)and both have 1965 casting dates. I was going to put them a 30 over 350 with a Comp 282S cam or should I just start looking for another set of heads ? I do have a set of #3998993 (75cc) I could use ? Thanks Rich T.

David Vizard says that the 462 heads had a higher spark plug location, but considers them as on the same level of performance.
Both of those heads should have a "double hump" casted into the front of them, so you wont get any smart remarks from those glancing at your engine. They may have different valve sizes though according to Mr. Viz. Hope that helps.

As you already know, they ARE NOT identical!
They will work together but imho, you really should try to pick up a mate for either and run a matched pair..
Or at the minimum, cc them so they are the same. pdq67

As has been said they aren't the same. Actually there is a lot of difference, Spark plug, location chamber shape, If you are going to just run them do it but if you are going to put money in them find a mate to one of them.

Just an idea, maybe someone else on the forum is in the same boat and you guys could work out a trade so that both of you would have a matched set of heads.

i always thought that they had the same size combustion cambers and flow the same but i have been wrong before.i would sure use them before i would the 993s they will be worth at least 2 tenths. if you have to put very much money in them i would surely look to a dart or some other after market head you will be happier in the end
