I'm considering a "ZZ-5", 350/385h.p. with fastburn heads and an "Edelbrock Performer RPM Pro-Flo EFI" hooked up to a 700R4 transmission, backed up with a 4:10 12 bolt posi. I wonder if anybody out there has tried this combination? Am I going to have problems attaching alternator brackets, power steering pump, vacuum hose for brakes or what modifications are needed for the 700R4 ( crossmember or speedometer hook up)? How much horsepower can a stock 700 handle or maybe I should run a Turbo 400. I'm an "Old School" gearhead" big pistons, big cam, 104 octane......you know the drill!!! I'm attemping something new and am trying to think it out first. Thanks for any input, "Good or Bad" on this idea. Have a "Cold One" or two and think this one out. If anybody's tried this I would love to talk to them before I get into this so deep that I'm pullin' my hair out. Thanks, DukeDDawg.

Look here first. www.700r4.com (http://www.700r4.com)

I have essentially what you're talking about, except a 2004R instead of a 700R4. The 200 is an easier swap. I dont have the EFI, though. Lots of folks use the 700.

I had to find a different alt bracket, but it is a stock GM - just later. Your PS will bolt up as is if you change the FB385 timing cover to the old metal style. It did reqire a couple of spacers - no big deal.

It is all pretty much a bolt in deal - even the 700 kits sound painless. Requires a modified driveshaft.

If you go 700, I'd think a 3.55 gear would work better than a 4.10. The 700 has a 3.06 first gear.

Oops, almost forgot...thanks for the idea...I think I'll go have a couple!

Thanks for the reply! :D I'm new to this site, as well as computers, but think this site is the bomb!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif I'm doing a frame off restoration and am "dream racing" right now. I just happen to have the 4:10 posi, I guess it might not be a gear to use for that transmission. A buddy of mine suggested it cause of a lower first gear and the overdrive. I'm not committed to any combination yet. I do have 5-6 th350 layin around. What do you think of the "EFI" on the "FastBurn"? graemlins/beers.gif

I put a zz4 w/ TCI 700r4 and 12 bolt. The driveshaft is shorter.(49 5/8 housing to yoke) I put a bowtie overdrives conversion crossmember in. Very simple swap to do, you will need all of the long water pump brackets and pulleys though. There's a link in my sig.

The guy's that hang out there are knowledgeable and several have done a lot of things to their cars along these lines.

May help you some?? pdq67
