Finally finished the 69 Fbird and ready to tackle the 69 SS. My starting point is the dashboard. I have some rust on the top panel at the windshield and the bonehead 1st owner drilled a medeco type key lock in the middle of the metal dash. Has anyone used one of the replacement steel dash carriers? Seems like it would be just as easy as replacing the top piece. My SS convertible is all original and I don't want to put a crappy dash in it.

I had to replace the top (and the cowl) of my dash on my COPO Camaro. If your upper dash is unsalavagable as mine was, a new dash top is the way to go. In the end it will look nice then a patched up version.

They are very easy to replace this is probably the easiest one on the car.I used
3-M panel adhesive along the front to stop any rust coming from the welds.

I'm also replacing the cowl and side cowls on my 68. Anything I need to pay special attention to with the cowl on positioning? Thanks- Sims

Sims - I didn't have to replace the side tulip panels on mine. They were very repairable so I did that instead. As far as the cowl itself goes, as long as you able cut the old out along the original seems where it meets the firewall and all - Replacing it with the new one shouldn't be too bad. The welding is not for the faint of heart though.
