All,

I posted a thread last week but I cannot find it. Anyway, I went and looked at the car today and have pictures. The VIN is 124378N402880 and the trim tag is ST 03D, TR 714, 68-12437, NOR102558. The number on the engine block was 88794470n and on the rear end was the number 123A5 and a 6818. I wasn't planning on stopping buy today so I did not have my camara. I had to use my Blackberry so I apologize for the quality. A couple of things, 1. I was wrong on my previous post, the car has been painted about 10 years ago (not the original color). Also the current owner is the third owner and he installed power steering, and power brakes (I think). I will be getting it on a lift when we get some decent weather and I will get better pictures.
Given the limited information, what does everyone think in regards to what I should offer him? Again, he is asking 40k. The car looks alot better then it shows on in the pictures. Sounded great as well.

I don't know what that engine number is .....no clue if it's original to the car, which means everything as far as putting a price on it.

Here's one on ebay for comparison.

Gary,

The numbers look funny to me, however, it is supposed to be the original 302 with 65k original miles. It was parked in a garage and the guys son (who I know) got under the car and looked (I was in a suit). Once I get it on a lift I can re-check everything.

Thanks,

Eric

Gary is correct! What other stampings are on the pad? Believe the first thing to resolve/verify is the engine as that means soooooo much, and you do not need a lift for that.
Keep us posted and good luck

I had thought power steering was standard and came with a flat hood for an early '68 Z/28. Nice car just the same.

Agreed, the black car looks great! If I can verify the one I am looking at is as described, AND, I could pick it up for $35k it might not be a bad deal. Like I said, I will get it on a lift when we get a decent day in Indy and check it out.

Everett, first I had heard of the flat hood, I will have to check it out.

Thanks!

Power steering was optional. Flat hood only for all of 68.
It would be nice to see sharper pics.
Wrong valve covers. Those are 69's. 2nd alt bracket is missing.
As I think I said in the prior thread, you need to get a clean pick of the "MO" engine pad stamp---->.http://www.camaros.org/images/decode/1967-69_V8engine_stamp_location.jpg
Wrong/incorrect items I've mentioned can be easily corrected. Not knocking the car.

In my opinion the real value in a Z/28 is having the correct engine & components. The numbers you gave for the engine are NOT correct for a 68 Z engine block should have a casted # of 3914678 which is the same castings as they used 327ci & 350 blocks in 1968 so beware. Should have a MO stamped on the front engine block near the passenger side front valve cover area. Looking at the engine picture you would be missing some high dollar parts like the correct alternator with the deep grove pulley, Z's used double upper alternator brackets. The valve covers are not original. There shouldn’t be a Chevy emblem on the oil fill missing the smog stuff as well. The car looks like it could use a restore. I don’t think it’s worth any where near $35,000 maybe $ 20,000 tops for a project with NOM
What is the original color combo? Any paperwork, protecto plate or history? Good luck!

Everyone,

Thanks for all the great information. Like I said, the quality of the pictures on my cell phone really effect how the car really looks. Having said that, I agree with everyone that this car is not worth anything close to $35-40k if it is not the original engine.
Dennis, thank you for the help on the stamping location. I own a 68 currently that is pro-touring so have not had a history on these critical numbers (I have a new 555BBC in the one I currently own).

I will be heading back over in the next few days and will have much better pictures.

Thank you everyone! I will post new pic's as soon as I can.
