They were painted black when the rear was painted.

They may have had some over spray thu mind didnt, nore did the diff..which would suggest the body underspray, which was a grey type splater was done before the diff/springs where put in...
drums where never actually paintedbecause Rims are ment to bolt up steel to steel, nothing between the rim and drum when torqued up

The rear axles were painted as an assembly, sans the brake lines, and with a cardboard tube placed over the pinion yoke.

The face of the drum likely didn't get full coverage, but I'm not sure if there was any consistency there or not.

I painted mine with high temp cast blast gray, cuz when I did it, I thought they were supposed to be natural. However, they should be black....don't know which gloss, but I'd guess about the same as the inner fenders....70% (AKA Rustolium 7777) Not sure how that would hold up to the brake temps, though.

I have several vintage mags with 67-69 Camaro traction bar installation articles and they all clearly show shiny black brake drums. I doubt the paint adhered well and thus did not last but they WERE painted.

I think black BBQ paint is in order on the drums :)

My drums were painted purple when I got the rear. I don't think that was original. :)

Maybe Jimi Hendrix owned it. ROTFLMAO.
