Has anyone ever wondered why things happen the way it does.?. I have a big block for sale complete, all brand new and looks stock manifolds etc. And a year ago when i was looking for a motor i would have killed for it.So my question what is it worth?? WES

What are the casting dayes, casting numbers, and stamped codes on the passenger deck pad?

The value is determined to a large extent by the numbers, and the configuration. A desirable 4 bolt Corvette application or COPO is worth 2-3 times what a low-horse 2 bolt Impala motor is worth.

This motor is just a non-numbers,freshley rebuilt. It has no numbers to it what-so-ever. It has the good g.m. alum intake of a 1969 375 horse and a 780 carb. It is complete from air cleaner to oil pan ,fan clutch to bellhousing.I was just wondering the point aloud (here is a motor complete like everything and everyone wants it for free. It also dynoed at 486hp/476tor. Like i said ,a year ago i would have killed to find such a complete motor???

It's gotta have casting number and casting date on the flange by the bellhousing. Is is a 4 bolt? does it have square port heads?

Even decked, a rebuilt 427 with 512 casting, 4 bolt mains, 6223 crank, 840 heads, 163 intake, 4346 carb, and 621 bell housing is worth every bit of $7-8K. Appropriately dated and it's worth more.

Sorry,i was trying to sound vauge for a reason. It is a 2bolt 454 1972, the heads are a oval port. It has a Kiesler bellhousing. repro parts bellhousing, manifolds, flywheel, fuel lines, air cleaner, etc. But it all new.!!

I'm sure you must have been vague for a good reason, but I don't understand. Sort of like saying, "What's the value of my 63 Pontiac".....and then later saying, "Did I mention that it was a Factory Tempest Super Duty?"

A 2 bolt 454 is worth a whole lot less than a 4 bolt 427, regardless if left as an externally balanced 454 or converted to an internally balanced 427.

Sounds like a nice motor, and it will have value as a hot rod motor, but no real collector value. Hate to say it, but it's probably worth less than the cost to build one.

i was only vauge because as we all know, we all want to find that 512 block or motor that we can get for 500.00. I was asking 5000.00cdn , but i think i'll put the ls project on hold. Thanks for your help.

454 2 bolt block built into a 427 with the proper crank & pistons ? Oval port heads but has the 375HP intake ? Makes no sense and will flow like crap if it's true that it's got a square port intake bolted to oval port heads. A clone, nothing special 427 made from a 454 block & miscellaneous parts wouldn't get any more than $1500 of my dollars IF I could hear it run first. No offense but if you really feel it's worth $5000 you're going to have it a LONG time...

Must cost alot less to rebuild a motor in the U.S.A. You are pretty much the reason i put the post out. You could not rebuild and supply all the parts for 6500.00 dollars never mind 5000..As far as flow ...makes almost 500 horse.486 ft of tor. smooth of 2000rpm and keeps on climbing so don't know how bad it could be?? Point was you could not fill the space with a wrecking yard motor with all the pieces for what i am asking. Just my two cents. No offence taken... Wes
P.S. I am sure it would worth more if you owed it!

Would a dealer replacement, ie CE, be worth as much?

I have a CE coded L72 427 in my Yenko clone. IMO in my case, I'd say it's worth less than an MN coded L72. But I think it worth more than an Impala coded L72....except to a guy looking for an Impala coded L72.

First off, I could easily build that exact engine for less than $6500 using all new parts and a quality machine shop. If I had the time to shop around I may be able to do it for $5000. That said..... its worth half as much as it would cost to build, thats the way the "used" parts world operates. You may be able to get more but if you do, its luck. Its a mismatch of parts and repo parts at that so finding a buyer willing to pay top dollar might be tough.

My guess............. $2000-2500 in todays tough economic times.

JMO of course.......
