View Full Version : Questions for N20 Users...
AllGoNoShow Dec 9th, 03, 04:10 PM Couple of beginneer questions about the use of Nitrous...I'll number them to make them easier to answer.
1. This will be on a 355 with Speed Pro Hyper pistons, stock crank, stock rods(most likely with stock bolts-previous owner built it but no reciepts for rod bolts)-20K on complete rebuild. Will be producing about 350HP on motor...is a 100HP shoot asking too much? I will have all the safety stuff like fuel pressure safety switch, window switch, retard timing switch, full throttle switch, etc.
2. If I run, say 13.1 on motor, what would I run on a 100 Shot if I hook?
3. What accesorries not included in the kit are really needed?(bottle heater, purge, guage, etc.)
4. Will a stock 3/8th fuel line with a 172gph Carter fuel pump be enough to feed the motor while on the nitrous or should I look towards an electric pump?
Thanks for the help guys.
camaroman7d Dec 9th, 03, 04:20 PM Hyper pistons can take about 100HP shot (125 max to be safe).
You will proabably go from 13.1 to the very low 12's but that depends on a lot of things (when you spray it, traction, track conditions, weather, etc..) might even sneak into the 11's I don't know anything about the car.
The main thing you REALLY should not go without is a fuel pressure cut off switch. This is a switch that will turn off the N2O if your fuel pressure gets to low. This is a must in my opinion. One lean run can ruin your day. Purge is nice, but not needed, heater is nice but not a must. You are talking a fairly mild shot 100HP. There are all kinds of accessories that just make the system nicer, more consistent but, I don't think you need them with a 100HP system.
That fuel puump/system should be good enough for a 100 shot but, the very best way is to run a dedicated fuel system. Might be a little overkill in your situation, as long as you have the fuel pressure cut off switch you don't have to worry about hurting anything. Try it and see if the pump is enough.
The one thing to remember is NOT to let it run lean.
ToyzRMe Dec 9th, 03, 09:29 PM This might not be totally advisable, but a few years ago when we were still doing alot of street racing, my buddy and I bought a 66 Nova 2door post with a bone stock 283, 350 turbo, and 3.08 open rear. We put on a single plane intake and 650 double pump Holley on it with 1 5/8 headers. Unknown cam, stock 283 heads, stock converter. We also put on a Cheater system pilled for 175 hp. with a separate fuel supply and Blue pump and 8x26 MT slicks.
This thing was such a pig straight motor you had to spray it to heat the tires. Probably ran 16's on the motor. But on the spray it ran 12.50's all day long thru the full exhaust. And it was quiet!
:D
We ran it for over a year like that and sold it for triple what we had in it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

68rs406 Dec 10th, 03, 06:55 PM i agree with royces comments. but dont let the nitrous bug bite and "just try a little more", with the setup you have i'm saying 100 should be ok, if your timing and fuel is where it should be (fuel should be ok imo, timing needs to come out as per nos reccomends for you system). i think any more than 100 and your on edge, and over 150 you are really taking your chances, but thats just my opinion. remember nitrous is safe if kept in check, but VERY unforgiving if not.
all those accesories you mention are nice, but not necessary, with the exception of a bottle heater. or at very least a bottle gauge and a means to heat the bottle up. because believe it or not, even on a 75 horse shot, the difference of a bottle thats at ambient temp and maybe 500 or 600 psi and a bottle thats heated and at 900 pounds at least, (but not over 1000), is a huge diference in performance. good luck with it graemlins/thumbsup.gif
