What color is the fuel pump rod cover plate supposed to be? I am re-installing the original one but after cleaning the grease off there is no signs of any color at all. Orange? Black? Natural? It makes sense that the inside is not painted but was it installed and painted with the engine? Also what color should the two cover bolts be? 67 327

Most cover plates were natural - they were installed at the car assembly plant with the fuel pump; cover plate bolts are natural.

Since it has never been off I suspected that it should not be painted since there were no signs of any paint. Also it does not seem like it was cad plated either, just bare steel.
