View Full Version : 67 camaro
fjas67 Nov 18th, 08, 02:06 PM just bought a 67 camaro, original 6cyl car, 123 vin...california built in van nuys...rebuilt 350 with 350 trans, 10 bolt 8.5 posi, multi-leaf spings, front disc brakes, new bucket seats and rear seat, dash is there but needs components, only rust is on passanger lower quarter behind rear wheel, paid $4500 for the car...is it a good deal?? a steal??? or did i pay too much???
The Sleeper 327 Nov 18th, 08, 02:22 PM I think you got a good deal, not a steal, and not overpaid. As long as it is what you want, runs and drives nicely, needs some work that your going to enjoy doing, you did GOOD my friend. And a less rusty body is much nicer than a rusty bucket rebuilt with new metal. Pics by chance?
fool injected Nov 18th, 08, 06:52 PM I think you did great. A couple months ago I thought I did great when I bought a 67 RS that had been 'modified' to try to be an SS. Had (wound up selling motor/tranny) a 454, m20, p/s, pdb, rear 12 bolt, center console. It needs paint and some interior (dashpad, headliner) but otherwise it's pretty solid, for 7K.
Ive seen people asking what you paid for a rusty shell, so imho you are ahead of the game. enjoy it and post some pics!
fjas67 Nov 19th, 08, 12:14 AM looked though the car again and the only rust i found was the passangers lower quarter...floors, trunk, driprails are solid no rust...however it is missing little parts of the dash such as headlight switch, wiper switch, wiper motor, someone smoothed out the firewall doesn't have a heater core...and the wiring is a mess the guy started rewiring it...hopefully i can just continue what he started, he seemed to do a really nice job under the hood so...i'm crossing my fingers the wiring won't be too hecktic...starts on the dime, can't drive it yet because it doens't have a master cylindermissing the defrost/air unit in the center of the dash and missing the radio...it doesn't have the cowl tag on it...i haven't looked though all the parts in the trunk...but the one that worried me the most was the cowl tag...now...if i don't have it in the trunk is that a problem??? would that take away great value of the car??? would i be able to get another one???
1st 67 SS/RS Nov 19th, 08, 04:11 AM The cowl tag is what provides/helps to prove what your car is. It could make a big difference in the value of the car. Without that, you just have a plain jane 67. If you find it and put it back on, it will always be questioned if it is the real tag or not. And yes it will hurt the value of the car if you or the future buyer is looking for value coming from it being documented/with options (SS, RS, A/C, original color, engine, trans, etc) or somewhat original. There are old cowl tags out there but DO NOT put one on that is not from your car, this is strongly looked down on (a sin in the Camaro world). If you find the original one in the trunk (and you check it to make sure that it is definitely the correct one), you can put it back, not sure on the exact rivets that hold it on. Others here can answer that, but you should inform future buyers of the cowl tag. Right now, the value of the car is going to come from the how good the body, paint, drive train and interior is. Hopefully, you find the cowl tag in the trunk or call the the guy you bought it from and ask him.
The Sleeper 327 Nov 19th, 08, 05:07 AM Being that the vin says its a 6 cylinder, I don't think the trim tag missing is a big deal. It wasn't an RS was it? The tag basically tells you what options it had and the exterior and interior color etc. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it, not sure why someone would remove it from a 6cylinder. It is a nice camaro body, your money for the car will come from it being this and the amount of work into that the buyer likes. Enjoy the car first though. You got a good deal on it, you shouldn't lose money on this unless you go custom or just spend money on it for no reason.

I'd agree, ...being a 6 cyl, ...AND that it seems the prior owner smoothed the firewall, etc. (possibly the reasons for removing the tag?) I don't think it's going to make a big difference. You may end up building 'your' Camaro (pro-touring, resto-mod, etc.), ...so I don't think the cowl tag would be an issue.
