: LS electronic tuning
Creeper Nov 19th, 08, 11:18 AM I have seen alot of builds here with the newer LS1/LS2 stuff and would like to learn in general how you can custom tune the ecu or whatever ????? For ex: If I take any newer EFI motor and do head work, new cam, headers, throttle body. Do some of these programers available allow you to keep adjusting timing, A/F mix etc ?
I read about alot of people getting there ecu's re-flashed. That would not work for me. Iwould want to be able to make changes myself. Where can I start to get some good info on this type of tuning.

junkman Nov 19th, 08, 11:45 AM Tuning software like hptuners, and ls1edit, are probably the most popular. You put the program on laptop, and plug it into the obd port. You can pretty much adjust any parameter you can possibly think of, I would say the ls motors have at least a couple hundred different tables for different scenarios. I purchased hptuners a couple cars ago to try to tune for a cam change. I could never really figure it out, so took it to have dyno tuned. I just put a cam, and ls6 heads on my 4th gen. I dug it out, and have been giving it an honest effort to learn how to work hptuners, and I do have the car completely driveable, but unitl I get a wideband I haven't messed with the wot tuning. Hptuners has a forum, that I don't think you have to have bought their product to sign up and browse/search. That would give you an idea of what everything looks like. I have used it on a few of mine, and a few friends conversions that just have stock motors to delete uneeded equipment, and vatts, that stuff is pretty easy.

hp tuners and ls1edit are popular in my area.
Creeper Nov 19th, 08, 12:12 PM Thanks Guys. Everytime I read about this stuff, I get a headache. I will keep an eye out for more info. I have avoided working on newer stuff for these reasons, but dont want to get completely left behind. I sold a early 98 z-28 because I didn't know what to do with it. I am now considering buying it back and I will also need to rebuild a 5.3 in my Silverado soon. If I go inside a motor, I cant leave it stock ! :D
Radcannon Nov 20th, 08, 09:50 AM I would try to get a standalone computer built since they are alot more tuner friendly. I am pretty sure you have to pay licensing rights for hptuners and software like that.
My friend has a standalone computer I will have to ask him what it is but it accepts any GM sensors. He converted his honda lol to all GM sensors and uses the standalone computer its amazing software. Does realtime data logging at any refresh rate you ask, you can put custom fuel curves in for boost, nitrous, and cold start. It tells you how much percentage of your injectors you are using... pretty much everything. It also lets you control spark independently and can tell you afr bank to bank, and maf or map whichever you chose to use.
He spent just over a grand for all the software and computer and some sensors.
DewRon Nov 21st, 08, 11:42 AM Vengeancerd.com is your ticket. I was there yesterday looking at a 08 Vette that made 505 to rear wheels. They have some serious stuff. They are located in Atlanta GA. Take a look....

right on. my friend had a ported fast 92 mm intake and throttle body installed on his 02 Trans Am there on monday. He went from 418 RWHP to 451 RWHP. 33 RWHP from an intake/tb swap on a heads/cam LS1. Before he swapped he had a LS6 intake and a factory tb that had been ported.
wiskeesour Nov 21st, 08, 09:11 PM Diablosport Predator is what I use. You can change everything and i can use it to read trouble codes on other vehicles. Most of the Predator programmers are realtime data recording. In the future, I will record the data for my specific driving habits and get a specially flashed ECM from www.wait4meperformance.com or is it .net...I forget.
edit: yep its .com
Radcannon Nov 22nd, 08, 12:51 AM Ya other people flashing your car is cool especially if they use the dyno to tune it. But I would much much much rather spend the money to get something to tune it myself. If you know how to read your senors you should know what values you are looking at and you have the potential to make more than them if not the same maybe a little more costly but its you. You do what you want and keep what you think is safe and reasonable instead of telling someone your specs and have them tune it all engines are different.
wait 4 me looked alright but like I said if your engine is custom as in modified not production pretty much all engines are different unless they happened to dyno tune your exact set up which i happened to have happen. I got lucky but thinking back I would have much rather done it myself. You never know what they do or whats the "same" specs to them.
