What is your favorite tool? There are so many in the tool box but my favorite now is the Flex Head Ratchet crescent wrenches. These have saved me so much hassle in tight corners and worked perfectly. I even went and got metric set for chores on the wife's Maxima.
All the tool companies carry their version but I like the Gear Wrench brand. The ratcheting stops inside the tool can vary with brand, some give more turn to each 'click' than others but all in all, the nicest tool I own. :)
What is yours?

Jim: just got my tools from the ex-wife... I guess her new fella didn't think I'd notice all the missing stuff. I'm not too handy with tools so I defnatly love any "ratchet" set. Guess I'll be having a conversation with this guy about those and other stuff.

Since I'm stuck in panel replacement hell, my Harbor Freight body saw has been my best friend.

Funny this pops up today. Yesterday I removed the radio from the Firebird. The shaft nuts were round with two slots. This has never been removed since it left the line. Needlenose pliers woud'nt touch them. I had an old double ended socket from a snowmobile, the kind of tool quality one gets with say a chain saw. I ground and filed to leave two tabs sticking out, popped those rings off perfectly. I think maybe thats why alot of dashes are broken here. FWI, the perfect size is 7/16". My favorite tool of the day!

I like my set of crow's feet. I don't use them often but they sure come in handy some times....

well carb im with you in body panel replacement hell, so im a big fan of this spring loaded spot weld drill bit at the moment. i finally went through the first bit thanks to the hardness of the metal surrounding welds so i got a 3 pack of replacements.

it also leaves you a nice hole in one side of the panels your working on so you can re-weld it easily

Shoot man, I have a fortune in tools. I don't buy tools like I used to, but it still doesn't phase me to walk on Snap and spend a grand. Not counting company owned stuff that I consider mine but it's theirs and I'll give back if ever we part, but still mine for now. I have lots that I'm really proud of and get a big grin each use. But my fave, that's simple. It's a 40 year old POS Thorsen 1/2 by 9/16" open end wrench. All my guys know don't be touching my favorite wrench unless I hand it to them. It is close followed by my 426 channellocks, then my antique Armstrong 7/16 box/open. Yeah I got all Snap too. So what. My Dad didn't give them to me.

Had to think long and hard (no pun intended) about which tool has been my fav, and I after much thought...I'd have to give the old vice grips that nod. It's been there to hold metal on the grinder...to act like a wrench, when there was little left of the bolt head or nut...and to grab and hold that what ever like a third hand. IMO

I second that!!! All my tools are my favorite especially my antique stuff! I love the feeling I get when using a tool that has been in service for over 50 years! But... This web site has more then paid for my entire garage set-up because the info and ideas I've gotten from newbies to old timers is priceless! Think about it! THANX

The uview air lift. It pulls a vacuum on an empty cooling system. If it holds a vacuum you already know if you have a leak before you fill the cooling system, and you don't have to worry about having an air lock in it. I have saved countless hours over the years by using this instead of trying to burp air pockets out of contrary cooling systems.

My favorite tool at the shop is my pen... Dang thing makes me more money than anything... (Its not what you write, its how you write it that makes the difference) This goes for both wording the repair order so the customer can understand it as well as protecting ME in case the customer is a crook.

For the record Im at around 90K in tools and equipment.

Second favorite is the 'net... Things are really simple to research if you know how to look...

It's my battery charger. Yes that's right, but not for charging batteries. Have almost worn it out using it to de-rust parts by electrolysis. It works great. I wish I could have found someone with a swimming pool and I would have suspended the entire car in the pool and de-rusted everything at once!

I inherited my grandfathers tool box. He was a machinist in Detroit . I have his wooden tool box complete with union and presidential pins stuck to the felt lined underside of the lid... Whenever I work on any of my cars I always try to use a tool from his box before going to my big box .

I also have my grandfather's tool box , and he was also a machinist , lots of cool one-off tools he built for specialized jobs . It's not anything fancy , but I consider it a family heirloom , and it is priceless to me .

It's hard to pick a favorite ONE tool , but if I had to , it would probably be my Mig welder , I've done so many different things with it that would have been virtually impossible without it .

I too have tens of thousands invested in tools. I am an admitted tool junkie. (I can stop at any time I swear). But one of my favorites has got to be mid depth sockets. I very rarely have to use a deep or shallow when using the mid depth. is usually just small enough to get into small spaces, and just long enough to get to the nut over the end of a bolt or those bolts with the studs on the head.
