: If you've ever wondered what the assembly lines look like...
bertfam Nov 20th, 08, 10:56 AM Some great shots from the original early 60's Life magazine article of the TARRYTOWN PLANT (http://images.google.com/images?q=chevrolet+tarrytown+factory+source:life)!
No Camaro, but VERY cool.

Vinchenzo68cam Nov 20th, 08, 01:13 PM cool pix.
I thought Christine might be in there.
No, she was a Plymouth right?
bertfam Nov 20th, 08, 01:16 PM John (Hinckley) pointed out to me that Life magazine just released a TON of pictures from their archives, and these are just a drop in the bucket of all the pictures they've taken over the last 100 or so years.
They're being hosted by GOOGLE (http://images.google.com/hosted/life), so check it out. You can probably spend days in there just poking around!

Gary L Nov 20th, 08, 01:21 PM Fully painted exhaust manifolds. That is surprising. I bet there was a little stink and smoke when the motor was started.
Mark C Nov 20th, 08, 03:26 PM The fully painted or oversprayed exhaust manifolds means the engines came from the Tonowanda plant. Flint put the exhaust manifolds on after paint. At least in the Camaro Era.
Another tidbit from JohnZ.
68camaroz28 Nov 20th, 08, 04:23 PM Hey, some neat pic's for sure.... Thanks for sharing!
:beers:
okiemark Nov 20th, 08, 04:44 PM As an American history buff, and car buff, I love those pics. I wonder how many of those cars are now making weekend appearances at car shows? I've mentioned it before, but it's funny how we desperatly want to find the build sheet, or question every
marking on a trim tag or partial vin #... "does it look right?" "Why is the stamp crooked... may be a re-stamp". All these guys wanted to do is move the car down the line, go to lunch, then suffer through the rest of the day and go home. if a stamp wasn't just right, they didn't care. They didn't know 40 years later stuff like that would be argued and fought over by guys like us!
kemper68rs Nov 20th, 08, 11:30 PM Did all those cars have to be wet sanded before paint???
Mark C Nov 21st, 08, 04:31 AM Yes, every single one of them.
DougP Nov 21st, 08, 05:59 AM Great pics - enjoyed looking through them - thanks!
