Does any TC member have a current aftermarket make and part number for the engine rubber mounts for a 69 Z28? I was on David Pozzis website and he shows the difference in the hite of the mounts. The original GM part number is 3990918.
I helped a friend change his cam on a 69 Z28 and when I was putting it back togeather the balancer was rubbing on the sway bar. To make a long story short, I measured it from my own Z28 and it is approx. 1/2" difference in engine hite. His car appears to have 68 or short insulators.
The local parts stores have brought in 4 sets of mounts now and all are the short variety 1&5/8" from base to bolt centreline. My car they look to measure 2&1/8".

Thanks in Advance.

Hmmm, why would installing a new cam alter the position of the harmonic balancer? The crank is undisturbed in that process.

It did not change anything, the balancer was rubbing the paint off the balancer before I took it apart, some Moron put the wrong mounts in it before. I have been working on this car for 2 weeks going on, it was really messed up with wrong parts/bolts etc.etc. I need a beer. LOL.

It is the original Z28 Balancer 7708 8" Diameter. I measured the hite of the engine from the frame stands to the ex manifold bolt centreline on my own 69RSZ28, and the engine in this car is approx. 1/2" lower, and it does have the correct frame stands. Pozzis website shows the difference in the engine insulators and this car has the wrong mounts, I would like to change them but after looking at 4 sets of Camaro engine mounts from the local parts stores ( even if their parts book shows them as correct ) they are not. The mount they show for a 69 Z28 is 2285, it is wrong. The 396 mounts are wrong also.

Any one know the correct mount number from a aftermarket supplier?

Rick's sells different engine mounts depending on which frame stands you're using.

Ive never used repo frame stands, but it appears as though a different engine mount is to be used with some of them.

The taller 69 Z28 rubber mount brand and number could be ANCHOR / DOAN 2283 or 31-2283 or whatever their prefix might be today. Your parts store should be able to interchange those numbers. The shorter lo-po rubber mount is 2267 or 31-2267 or whatever. Those two mounts are different widths where they fit over the stamped steel frame stands however. The 2283 is narrower in the area where it fits over the stand than a 2267. You will need to measure the stands to see if the 2283 will fit. If not, you can change the frame stands to the Z-28 stands to use the taller 2283 rubber mounts.

Thanks John, This car is a factory Z28 and has the correct frame stands. The parts store brought in 2 - 2283 mounts and they measured 1&5/8". , unless they were mispackaged. I think I will try another source as not to aggravate the parts guy.

I too fought this battle for a day, then went with those sold by Ricks- worked great although a bit pricey. In the end it was worth it to get the right part.

We have heard this with others. I think they were going to Autozone. They received two different mounts in identical boxes. Try a different store, like you said. Otherwise, just order the correct mounts from a parts house. You can never trust the local chain stores.
