I have a Digital 6 box under the hood, but its not connected. Does the HEI distributor require mods to run off the box. Can I expect some performance improvement running it with the HEI? I really need the rev limiter set up, Im just not sure if the Box is a good choice with the HEI, I previously had it set up with a pro billit distributor(mag pickup)and it worked great.
Thanks Rich

I'm running a MSD 6AL in conjunction with a GM HEI. The MSD takes the place of all electronics inside the HEI and the distributor acts as nothing more than the trigger. I also locked out my mechanical advance with a Holley lockout plate at the same time.

What was it worth in terms of performance over the stock HEI? Zero. The rev limiter is nice though. :D

Hey 40,

I assume you either remove the module or bypass it with a cable. I guess I will drop a call to MSD and convert it much the way you did. Im a little confused about the locked out advance, does that mean your always running the total advance even at low rpm?
As you probably remember I had the american speed 383 and sold it. The car is stuffed with a 540 now, and since I run a 4-speed I most certainly need the rev limiter hooked up before my first trip to the track.
Thanks Rich

why not run the matching MSD distributor with the box?

Performance gain gain maybe a couple but ignition mods dont give tons of HP ... unless your old one was so bad it was causing miss fires. Ihave noticed the idle is a little cleaner and the plugs dont foul.

Yes I run full advance all the time and yes the MSD bypasses the HEI module with a jumper cable.

If you spend more time on the street than the track then locking the advance isn't advisable.
