Afriend called and he has 87 Caprice. Is this going to work? Everett#2390 Nov 22nd, 08, 08:37 PM Yes, and welcome from another Iowan, relocated. timnjen07 Nov 22nd, 08, 10:58 PM Is that yes it will work? Do I need to check the amperage? I bought this car not knowing if it runs.No title. Was told it was bought from an auction. I have no proof.Converter was taken. Not sure if I got myself in too deep. timnjen07 Nov 22nd, 08, 11:03 PM Also steering column broke on the left side to access the rod that acuates things. Not sure why because the keys come with.I have access to another steering column but have not got it yet.Gas tank stinks so I guess that needs cleaned. How should I go about that?Plates are still on the car.Minnasota plate 02 tag so I suppose has not run since.I have not been to court house yet to see how to go about getting title. Everett#2390 Nov 23rd, 08, 03:30 PM More than likely, the alt should work as amps are needed since there is all the creature comforts and dual fans, at least OE wise. I'd wait until I get a clear title before doing anything. Gas tank will have to be replaced with a fresher one or OE boiled out at radiator shop. PB Blaster the strap bolts and use anti-seize when reassembling. timnjen07 Nov 23rd, 08, 03:46 PM What is the red tape involved in the title? Everett#2390 Nov 24th, 08, 04:57 AM I would take your Bill Of Sale, VIN, and go to the county court house and see if you can buy a County/State VIN plate to register it in your name. Otherwise, you'll have to go to the last registered owner, MN?, and get the title from them. The seller you bought it from should have at least the title. If it was an auction, a Mechanic's Lien may have been put against it and now ownership belongs to the repair shop for payment. The seller bought it and has gotten it for a "parts car - no title." Good luck. timnjen07 Nov 24th, 08, 06:04 PM I went and got papers to send in for the vin to get checked the i guess wait till they study it. Everett#2390 Nov 24th, 08, 07:34 PM Any idea how long? timnjen07 Nov 25th, 08, 05:14 PM not sure need address of the guy I bought it from but he not answer the phone or return my messages. Starting to wonder why. Everett#2390 Nov 25th, 08, 07:40 PM Hopefully, the title hasn't been turned in for savage. If it has, you might check with local DMV in obtaining a county/state issued VIN plate to get the car back onto the road. timnjen07 Nov 26th, 08, 09:36 PM Sounds like a full inspection. I suppose will send this paper in and go from there.I will tinker with the car and see if it will run.Gas sure stinks. Wish I had it in my garage up in the air. My 2 car garage is full. 71 chevelle in pieces. 71 grand ville conv. no brakes. Yes my hands are full. Oh yes I inherited 65 Impala conv. Needs everything rebuilt. Need lots of money. Everett#2390 Nov 28th, 08, 09:06 AM Lots of projects - good luck. bighaas79 Dec 4th, 08, 08:21 PM Sounds like you are doing a bonded title? Going the bonded route gives you a little protection if one of the past owners has a legitimate claim to it. And if you are too overwhelmed with projects I'd be happy to help you out and take that 65 impala off your hands ;) timnjen07 Dec 4th, 08, 09:16 PM The Impala is a sad situation. All original but very rusty. Do have good solid frame that came with it. My wife's uncle had the car and he passed a couple months ago. Looking forward to restoring the ragtop someday. Is a very neat car,PS,PB,AIR,bucketsand 2spd floor shift. Power top and the neatest big vacuum gauge in the middle of the dash.Oh yes only a 283 engine but still neat even though not a 396 or 427. bighaas79 Dec 4th, 08, 09:19 PM Sounds like it will be a nice ride someday. I've been looking for one to redo for my old man. He had a 65 and a 66 back in the day and he wishes he never got rid of them. |
