Another dumb question: I keep reading how people want original parts. Over the last 32 years I have saved virtually every part I took off the car when I was young and dumb... tho' not some that I SHOULD have saved like the exhaust manifolds. Does it make sense to save all this stuff? Are there people who want the original part regardless of condition so they can be refurbished? Horn relays, plug wire separators, voltage regulators, A/C compressors... how about a non-functioning gas gauge sending unit? I could use the room, but if they're worth saving I will.

Depending on what you have , yes , they could be worth your effort. In many cases, its the orginal stamping / casting that is wanted. Never know. Make a list of everything.

I assume u still have the car?
I could use the room, but if they're worth saving I will.

SAVE them...I also have the orginal brake hoses , tie rod ends, worn out wiper switch and fan switch etc etc
Other than big stuff like front seats, and stuffed hood liner, dash pad, basically everything packs into a good sized sea chest...not much room at all.

To have these, espec things orginal alternator and starter motor castings etc...means your car can always be restored back to THE orginal components, not just components picked up that sort of match the time period....And that is presrving history, And value

A lot of aftermarket parts... sort of fit. However, if replacing, it's sure easier to work the originals.

I too, have been toying with the idea of getting rid of parts (even some NOS) and pieces, but you never know when you're going to need that part that you just turfed.

Just this weekend, I finally located, listed and about to print up the different items that I have been collecting over the past 15 years...and it's amazing how it mounts up...but you know, at the car meets, I see less and less of the orig Camaro stuff. If might be different down your way, but up here, some orig replacement pieces are just not there any more.

If at some time in the future you, for some reason will ever part with your car... your collection of parts could sweeten the deal. I know, I for one, would appreciate the extras thrown into the sale.

As Step pointed out...the Cam stuff doesn't take up that much space if organized and compacted, eh? If ever rearended, and you have to use the repro replacements...you'll appreciate the original pristine ones that you've kept. If you do toss.. just be careful which parts are sold.

Anyway, that's just my take on this issue...even if it causes some friction with my better half.

Also...things like orginal engine trans mounts, shocks, suspension rubbers etc...there are lots of diffrent ones, and often the part numbers are diffrent and the catologes often cross reference wrong
u can simply grab the old orginal part and with it in hand compare with the new relacement part...
Doesnt happen often but just having being able to so saves a lot of stuffing around with dumb ppl behind the counter.
