: Rear sway bar for a 68'
Dirt's68 Camaro Nov 25th, 08, 06:58 PM Okay here goes another question for the pros, I have been looking into sway bars for the rear of my 68, and could use some assistance. 1st- I have the Hotchsis 1 1/12 lowering suspension with sub frame connectors that I use right now- I read that the sub frame connectors with eliminate the body roll- do I need a sway bar? If so is there any pictures of what it looks like so I can get an ideal of how it goes.
2nd what diameter would one suggest? Thanks Joe
onovakind67 Nov 25th, 08, 07:28 PM How does your car handle with the suspension you've got now? Before I put on a rear sway bar I would get some feedback on the handling. We found that a rear bar was a little much for our Nova road racer, the rear end liked to come around and the traction out of the corners was lacking.
bld22663 Nov 26th, 08, 05:42 AM I installed a 1" rear sway bar on my 67 convertible and it has proved to be one of the best additions to the car. I don't drive it like a road racer, but when I enter a curve I am confident that it will stick to the road. I can supply you with some pictures over the weekend if you wish.
dale68z Nov 26th, 08, 09:29 AM I have a helwig rear bar, I installed 7 years ago. I had to redesign the mounts, the ones supplied were not acceptable.
I have the 1 1/8 hollow bar in front.
If I were to do it again, I would save the money on the rear bar. Not necessarly because of the design, but I feel it is totally not needed.
The front bar is a must have for a 1st gen.

Thanks for the help and pictures would be great to see! I am still wondering on if it is needed, with the sub frame conncetors. I plan on going to a road track in better weather to play with the new suspension then decide

davidpozzi Nov 27th, 08, 09:37 PM You have the Hotchkis springs, why not get the Hotchkis bars???
Hotchkis did a lot of work to develop that kit, and the more of it you use, the happier you will be. Think about their Bilstein shocks too.

Dirt's68 Camaro Nov 30th, 08, 07:39 AM Dave, thanks for the info, I will get the Hotchins bar if it is going to be needed. I have the Bilstien shocks already from the kit. The Car is going to paint today and once I get her back the fun of rebuilding happens, so I have a little time to decide.
davidpozzi Nov 30th, 08, 11:10 AM The stickier the tires are, the more a rear bar is needed, the larger the rear tires are compared to the front, the more a rear bar is needed.
Hotchkis has an improved rear bar mounting with a mini-crossmember that is better than the old way, which bolted into the rear seat area.
If the price is too high, consider an Addco or Helwig bar set, but the Hotchkis is going to match your springs better.
