: Oil Filter Touching Header

I just installed a set of Dynomax Headers on my new 408. I was pretty happy with the fit. They went on pretty easily and the plug installation wasn't too bad either. My problem is that on the driver's side, the oil filter is touching the header. It isn't tightened against the filter, it is just touching it. Is this problem? I would think that it is. Right now, there is a Fram PH13 oil filter on the car. Is there another filter that will clear the header or should I put a dent in the header tube at the point of contact? I don't plan on running a PH13 all the time. This is just for cam break in.

that is a bad thing. I dont know if a dent will cure it either. A lot of heat comes off the headers and will surely heat the oil. Maybe the other guys can help you on a recomendation for a filter, but they are pretty much all the same size (in diameter).

I put an offset oil filter adapter on my s-10 off of a corvette. Moved the filter towards the pan so it would clear exhaust and 4X4 unit. MAybe check into something like that.

I noticed something similar when I use the AC Delco PF35-which is just a longer PF25. My headers hit the -35 but not the -25. I would think that if you are just going to use it for break-in and then switch to a shorter filter that does not contact, you should be alright. Otherwise, you may need to "massage" the header tube making contact, the oil filter cannister-or both. Good Luck!

Depending on your compression, etc those pipes can be anywhere from 300-600 degrees. I wouldn't run the motor with the filter touching. If you can't find one shorter, then relocate it.

I run a fram pf-25...a pf-35 will just clear my headers but it is very close. All that localized heat will eventually cause the filter to fail.

I just put on a PF 25. It provided much better clearance. Thanks
