So has anyone else out there had issues while the final stages of the build with paint chips? The thing is freshly painted but there have been a couple of occasions where someone (or me) has been doing something and wham! A new little chip in the new paint...

Has anyone else run into this and does anyone have any tips to help avoig this?

I think we all have it is now time to decide touch up,or repaint panel. There are some very good blending agents per say that you can spot blend and burn the clear in a very small area. This will have to be your decissionon how bad and where the chip is.When it was all said and done on my car I had to do about four or five areas,Plus a fender, lower fender, grill, and lower valence.I dont know if you have read any of my posts but I crashed my car in the garage just befare putting it on the road....

As far as "avoiding"... just the usual. Cover it. Fender covers when leaning over the engine comp. Multiple layers of blue masking tape when installing & adjusting body panels. Don't wear a belt. Be "oh so very careful." Leave the beers in the fridge until the job is done (yes, really!!!)
And finally... work alone. Nobody else touches it, you have nobody else to blame.

Don't work drunk or with little or no sleep.
I tend to make major flubs when I have 4 or less hours of sleep.

Like Jim says...just dont do it
I work on the concept of "work hard at being lazy"
It is far less work to tape up, cover, than it is to fix....and cheaper.
Fender covers I find slip...
I use those cheap picinic blankets and tap into place and a heap of masking tape.

My 1st rebuild, got a few chips, like most learnt the hard way.

"work hard at being lazy" ....lazy is not cabbage on the couch...that is slob...
Lazy is spending 2 yrs putting in a mercury bay (dicondra) lawn so u only mow it 2x a yr for the next 10.
Lazy is putting in a full auto watering system in the avaries, so u dont have to give fresh water every day to the birds
Lazy is spending 1/2 hr every 2 months weeding the gardens, instead of spending 2 full days 2x a yr cleaning all the weeds out.

Prevention is better than the cure.

And no matter how good the fix, blend, repaint is, at certain angles you will always see it, espec if u know it there and it is on the drivers side.

You cant use too much blue masking tape on your fender and quarters.

I had my car painted about a year ago..
As I was taking it home, my painter said, "Bring it back when you finish the trim, and I'll fix any chips or scratches you put in it." I just looked at him like: WTH - do I look like a clutz??

....a few months later I finished the trim, and took my car back with 3 big scratches and a chip in the spoiler...
no I wasn't drunk, things just happen, especially when other people distract you..

I got all new interior in September, last weekend I hopped in the front seat, with a phillips screw driver in my back pocket..
I was so mad at myself..
