I am getting ready to install my engine and tranny in my sub frame and roll the whole assy into the body and bolt it up. I think I can do it, but I have a few issues with clearance. I would like to use a early model HEI dist and need to know if will clear the firewall . my car is a 69 coupe and I am installing a 454 with a 700R4 tranny.

Depends on the motor mount towers. I used the correct GM big block ones, and I was able to install an early HEI with no clearance problems. It was only in for a short time when I was trying to diagnose a problem, and I wanted to rule out the distributor. I know it fit, but I don't remember how close it was.
