View Full Version : Correct decals for my car? Confused

I bought these decals when I first got my car, but never put them on. Now I am doing research and trying to figure out if they really belong. I am trying to be as stock as possible, so only want what would have been put on at the plant or the dealer. I have researched here and seem to find mixed reviews both on correctness and placement (and the repop places don't help any as they seem to provide mixed views also). I included the links and pics in case the pics don't work for some reason.

All input as to correctness and placement appreciated.

Erik - I'm no expert but I believe all first gen Camaros should have the emissions sticker. I don't believe the 2 antifreeze stickers are correct. I've never seen the red one before. I have occasionally seen the green one, but again, I don't think it's correct.

Check with the guys at Camaro Research Group:

I think you'll get the right answer there.

Thanks, Joe. I will check at CRG.

I would suggest the emissions sticker on pass side of rad support, a/f sticker just to the right of emissions, maybe behind the latch.

Green one was for earlier years, I think. However, it too would be on the rad support.

Thanks. How sure are you about these? Not to doubt you, but I just can't seem to get a consistent answer. My latest research seems to show that 67s only had the emissions. Augh!

Keep researching....they were used on 69's too. Not sure about 68s, but I'll bet they were.

I am only worried about 67s. I am getting closer to believing the only one that belongs is the emissions sticker.

My suggestion if you're trying to keep your car 100% original would be to invest a few bucks in a good quality restoration book by someone who knows what they're doing. I assume from your signature line you have a 67 SS ? Some of the experts here will be along shortly to recomend the best book for your model. Good clear pictures of original unrestored cars in those books will answer most of your questions.

I think you're right Erik. You could always just go with the emission sticker for now, and add on later when you find out for sure.

Again, check with CRG. You will get the correct answer there!

No Caution sticker for me! I researched that early on. As for CRG, I searched the forums there, too, without much more clear information. I will post over there as well.

Not sure this will help, but just FYI. We were just talking about these for 69's in another thread. There is some good evidence that they were installed differently in Norwood than in Van Nuys, at least in 1969, so maybe in 1967 too? And it looks like the thermostat/antifreeze sticker shouldn't be on 1969's at all unless they are from Canada. Don't know about 1967's yet.

As far as the emissions sticker:
Federal emissions equipment was not required in '67 (except in Calif.). The '67 AIM does not indicate a placement for an emissions sticker.

Emissions equipment was required in '68, and the '68 AIM does include instructions for placing the sticker (3.5" from the center line of the rad. support, drivers side)

Therefore, all '68-'69's have the sticker. 49 state '67's will not.
LOS cars (with emissions equip.) built for Calif. might or might not have one, but it seems likely that they would.

Does the 69 AIM have a placement for the emissions sticker?

Does the 69 AIM have a placement for the emissions sticker?

Yes, it does. See UPC 0, sheet B1, View "A", item 3.

Sure is John. Wonder why they decided to do it different in Van Nuys?

Check out the fan shroud photo on page 3 of this thread. This is a 7800 mile Van Nuys Z, the emissions sticker is right in the middle.

It is common for LOS/VN cars and NOR cars with A/C to have the emission sticker on the shroud

Thanks for posting the picture! Looks like you've done a lot of hard work. I'm curious, what books did you get the sticker positions from? I personally have never seen an survivor car from either Van Nuys or Norwood with the stickers where you have placed them. The AIM shows the emission sticker is supposed to go on the driver side of the radiator support. What are the stickers on the passenger side?

On your original post on the Ricks site it says the emissioms sticker is for a 69. I know my 67 has no emission equipment and no emission sticker.

The emission sticker is on the fan shroud on cars wit air conditioning because the rubber seal covers up the radiator support area where it is placed on non air cars. at least on the '69's that I have owned.

That's what John Z was saying too. Makes sense when you look at the VN survivor picture above, it still has the rubber seal on it.

I think it would be safe to say that the correct position for the emmissions sticker for A/C cars, both Norwood and VN, is on the center of the fan shroud.

Make sure you remove this one first:
