Today while its 37 degrees and snow is falling my 1984 camaro(auto, z28 140,000mi) wouldn't start initially. I didn't want to flood the engine so I gave up for a while. Then I jumped it and it started instantly. I know that I didn't kill my battery the night before so maybe I didn't give it enough gas.

When I tried to drive away I got 100 feet and make a left turn the car died mid turn in the middle of a street. I'm not sure if the problems are related but, I really want to know why it died. Then I let it rest for 5 minutes, and it turned on and worked normally, and i put it back in my driveway.

P.S. it smells like gas or burning oil inside the car a bit, and especially out.

First, which one is it? Burning oil or gas? The two have a very different odor to them. If it's gas, then you want to be careful and not drive it until you find the leak. If it's oil, you still need to be careful. As far as the dying part, you are going to have to wait until it happens again and then test for spark and fuel.

When you were cranking the first time, did it sound like it was turning over slowly? You said you jumped it and it fired instantly. That sounds like a weak battery. You said you didn't kill the battery the night before, what were you doing? You have to remember, cold weather starts are much much harder to accomplish. The oil is thick and the resistance is much much greater. A battery needs to have at least 11.5 volts to start a car, but in the cold, it requires more to overcome the resistance of the oil. Not to mention, cold fuel does not combust very well. Most of the fuel delivered to a cold engine usually puddles on the intake runner walls. That's why an engine needs more fuel to start and run when cold. That is another reason oxygenated fuels are used in the winter. Oxygenated fuel is more volitile.

And also why I'm a HUGE fan of global warming.

your car is in need of gaskets my friend. burning oil and gas is the reason why everybody talks about keeping the world "green". and not only that but u might want to just look into a tune up. your battery does not need a total 12 volts to start your car. if your car is carbureted, pump it twice before starting it cold. ive learned from that the hard way.
