I bought a 4340 crank for my 383 project, the one piece rear seal type. It is for internal balance. Does anyone know if I should remove the counterweight from my flexplate and have a complete internal balance motor, or should I leave it and do a half internal/half external like GM did? Thanks!!

not sure about removing the weight, new flexplates are cheap, get the right one and have it electronically balanced

Well, that's part of my dilemma. Every flexplate that I've seen for the 1 piece seal motors have the counterweight on them. Are you aware of one that doesn't have the weight?

I would bring it all in and consult with the guy who is going to balance the engine. He will probably want to do an internal balance but something may come up.

You're gonna have to weld the doors shut on that convertible so you don't twist it up! But I bet it will be fun doin it! graemlins/hurray.gif

It's been fun so far, Jim - but it's getting kinda expensive. Oh well - the new kitchen cabinets can wait. And if I notice the convert twisting, I figure I'll just put it in reverse and floor it!
